Just finished "Snake-Eater" by T. Kingfisher (@…). I'd read and thoroughly enjoyed her "Digger" webcomic, and found this book to be quite enjoyable too. There's something indelibly heartwarming about an anxious character growing to feel more comfortable and self-assured, especially when escaping and unlearning emotional abuse, and I'm certainly a sucker for heartwarming characters. I like the way that Kingfisher has taken time to talk about and try to avoid cultural appropriation, in a way that I feel is reasonable, although of course I'm not an expert judge of the nuances and I'm biased by having liked the book, so I'm willing to be told things are complicated in that regard it others judge differently. I also really liked the window dressing of a vaguely solarpunk future society, in a book that's not at all about that society. I'd love to see Kingfisher write something focused on how that society could work (or maybe she already has?).
Probably going to look up some of Kingfisher's fantasy books soon.

There is more to #SolarPunk than solar panels and bikes. What we are talking about is being part of a living world. The hegemonic culture is one of hierarchical domination.
But many of the the cultures that hegemony suppresses bring a vibrancy to life. I don't buy yeast from the store, sealed in a plastic packet, a coffin for a living thing. I feed my sourdough. I am obligated to it, in a relationship with it, as the culture is reliant on me for it's survival. It speaks to me, with smell and color. I must pay attention. I have to learn it's nature, how it grows and eats at different temperatures informed by different times of the year. Mushrooms, yeast, kiefer, plants, independent things, things I can't control, life that is intertwined with my own.
But even my #bicycle speaks to me, which is something I hadn't considered until reading this and thinking about that framing.
It is not simply that "we need a different economic system." What we are talking about is a fundamentally different interpretation and experience of the world, from the hierarchical structure of death to a web of life, where even "inanimate" things become imbued with agency.

Una gente estš pensando montar una pequeña web con información relacionada con #solarpunk. Algo colaborativo, vivo, con cosas teóricas y pršcticas, consejos y guías. Que lo mismo pueda servir de inspiración para un espacio comunitario que para una ilustradora en busca de sus musas. Sabiendo que hay otras iniciativas con las que no quiere competir con el nombre ¿qué suena menos mal?

Mit so einer veränderten Haltung sind auch keine AKWs mehr möglich.
Es gibt Leute, die fühlen sich von Windrädern beeinträchtigt, wollen aber tausenden von künftigen Generationen Atommüll aufbürden?
Das ist purer Egoismus.
Wir können nicht über unsere eigenen Grenzen und die Grenzen unseres wunderschönen, wertvollen Planeten leben.
Eigentlich ist es ganz einfach.

-Wenn Menschen wirklich ihr Verhalten ändern, ihre Haltung ändern und umkehren, wieder zu einer liebevollen, verantwortungsvollen Haltung einander und der Natur gegenüber, dann, wenn wir Glück haben, kann uns Mutter Erde auch eine andere Antwort geben. Aber nur dann.

Nach dem Lesen mehrerer Artikel finde ich Folgendes:
-Albert Rösti hat keinerlei Glaubwürdigkeit in seinem Umweltdepartement mehr, angesichts seiner Vergangenheit und seinen aktuellen Handlungen. Je schneller er weg ist, desto besser.
-Dann müssen wir mindestens fürs Erste auf Schuldzuweisungen verzichten und möglichst schnell vorwärts machen.

Just finished reading "Holler: A Graphic Memoir of Rural Resistance" by Denali Sai Nalamalapu. An excellent graphic novel about resistance to the Mountain Valley Pipeline in Virginia and West Virginia. Although the pipeline is sadly operational today, resistance delayed it by more than twice the originally-planned timeline, and increased the cost tremendously. This kind of action increases cost and risk projections for pipelines all around the world and slows down capitalist extraction even where it can't stop it.
The book is lovely, drawn from interviews with 6 different activists and including a variety of perspectives on resistance, including an indigenous perspective. A gray thing to read if you're into #SolarPunk, #anarchism, or #ClimateJustice, or just curious. I've included a picture of a page talking about building towards future communities here.

Die grässliche Katastophe in Nepal zeigt wieder einmal die Relationen Mensch-Natur.
Aber Bundesrat Rösti wedelt mit ein paar Milliönchen, sagt, die Klimaziele der Schweiz 2030 sind leider nicht mehr zu erreichen und bleibt Mann der Fossilindustrie.
Und er erinnert sich plötzlich wieder ans bundesrätliche Kollegialsystem! Krass.
