Huh, cool. A #Fediverse professional network: https://nolto.social/ 🤞🏻 that it makes progress. The current sway of a shit platform like LinkedIn sorta makes me puke in my mouth regularly.
Those QuickShells (Noctalia, DankMaterial) are making window managers much more accessible to anyone. Of course, of course, still WIP. But once a big distro (Fedora, an Arch or Debian spin, you get it) starts shipping one 'integrated' package, with Niri, Mango or even Hyprland and Sway, those traditional DE's will have a hard time. Fun project to come: labwc with a quickshell, making that modern day floating DE.

Actually, with Slackware Tilers (Sway, Niri and River) and my laptop with VoidLinux and DWM all my computer needs are taken care of. Other setups have hardly been touched the last couple of weeks.
Will 2026 be the year to do more with less?

Donald Trump on Wednesday further inserted himself into the drama around the sale of Warner Bros. Discovery,
saying he believes CNN

While the president doesn't have the power to unilaterally block a merger he doesn't like

Anyone for the outdatedness of Slackware?
My Slackware Tilers setup runs Sway, with the nwg-shell. And Mangowc with Noctalia. And Niri with Dank. Hyprland is available, but not installed. And Slackware Current. All from one iso and repository by @… . Smart thing: package sets are linked by symbolic links. Type "slackpkg install dank" and you'll se…
Typical american thinking, anything can be bought, it is so pathetic... $10,000 to $100,000 per person is not even that much for giving up freedom , healthcare, cheap education etcetera

Tired with all these, for restful death I cry,
As to behold desert a beggar born,
And needy nothing trimm'd in jollity,
And purest faith unhappily forsworn,
And gilded honour shamefully misplac'd,
And maiden virtue rudely strumpeted,
And right perfection wrongfully disgrac'd,
And strength by limping sway disabled
And art made tongue-tied by authority,
And folly, doctor-like, controlling skill,

At the corporate event everyone is wearing a name tag with your title and the company you work for. Guests are circling each other trying to read the name tag and see if you're interesting enough to talk to. Almost no one is there to simply socialize. They are trying to sell you something, sway your opinion, or add your details to their records for future use. In the background the conference has a software app that allows attendees to track and target each other. The goal is to add as many people as possible to your network, or insert yourself into their contact list. It's rare to make a new friend.
I will get to that dwm on Void, probably the evening before I have to get back to work 🤣 . Gotta say the overall setup (and easy snapshots in zfsbootmanager) is a breath of fresh air.
I do have river up and running on Slackware, but I got happily distracted by Sway and nwg-shell. Now I have my window rules figured out over there i'm gonna stick around a bit. It just works.
Cosmix-Saigon (based on Nixbook, my respin) was a 31 minute affair. Then everything was installed and runn…
Total distraction. Per usual. But at least that work laptop has Slackware Current with mangowc and sway all running great and smooth. Add noctalia for some bling (although it costs me an extra 300mb of ram compared to waybar...) and that's good to go. VoidLinux and dwm tomorrow then, with a little help of Bakkeby? Yup 👍🏻
As long as I don't get distracted again 🤣
#archlabs …
Usually the answer is staring at you, mostly for a couple of years. I run around in niri, river, what have you.
And then i open my sway session, with all tools by @… , known to me from his Archlabs days and now on Slackware.
And it gives me exactly everything I want and need 😂 Merry Xmas, Piotr!
Left: launcher button. Then all my workspaces, even when they're empty. The active windows and on which workspace they are. Playerctl (when you're playing sth). Tools, tray. volume, clock. Showing the nwg-drawer (although I shortcut most applications) Bar at 99%, so it aligns with windows below. Everything can be adjusted very simply, before applying. Nwg-shell rocks!
In all excitement et all I tend to forget how solid nwg-shell on Sway actually is. All frills if you want them, it just works. Foot as terminal is making a strong comeback also. Slackware Tilers has been my main home for 40 days now. Ain't leaving anytime soon.

So, The Core (in no particular order):
1. Slackware with nwg-shell Sway, Niri and Mango
2. Gentoo dwm
3. Aurorix, my KDE container spin.
4. FreeBSD 15 with Mango
5. Slackware Flatbrew, a KDE QT6 experimental iso, with Brew and Flatpaks (thnx @… 😉)
All working superbly.
Contemplating a bootc Cosmic spin 😜
Remember that drama laptop? Last night I installed TileOS on it. A very interesting project, with River, Sway, Niri, Qtile etc. available. I opted for Qtile, version 2 (that version is now in testing, 1.3 is production). A quick glance yesterday showed a lot straight up working ootb. And great ricing also. Worth a check ✔️
#tile-os
Void, with encrypted zfs, on the laptop. Dwm or River. Tbc. But Gentoo dwm is calling. Possibly before Tet.
NixOS with KDE on the N150. Solid.
Finally revived the old NUC with Slackware Tilers: Sway and Mango. And Dank. Great stuff.
The Thinkpad that wasn't sold: this will be either TileOS or Hatchery, a project by Troutcobbler, an old ArchLabs mate. Both Debian, tiling wm's. Cool. Check them out.
The last one will be after Tet, I'm off for a couple of days fo…
So. That iso with Slackware, nwg-shell on Sway and Niri plus a shitload of goodies (thnx @… ) installed nicely. Cleaned it up a bit and added and compiled Mangowc (aka maomao) myself, to have a closer look at it. Added Homebrew, Flatpak is there by install.
Surprisingly enough this means also I'm out of KDE for the first time in about 5 years.
I had a …
So, I'm getting down to the core:
1. Slackware with nwg-shell Sway and Mango
2. Gentoo dwm
3. Aurorix, my KDE container spin.
All working superbly.
One SSD left. FreeBSD? I think so.
The serenity that sets in when you have Slackware Tilers (with Mangowc and Sway), Gentoo with KDE and VoidLinux with dwm configured. And all running equally good and reliable
That's the triumvirate for 2026.
Then we have Slackware Cosmic to test drive for at least a month.
And that Thinkpad for all intermediate urges, like AerynOS, Chimera or Bluefin.
Done and dusted.
The easy way out is riverwm on FreeBSD, dots and set-up already available on my Codeberg.
The more challenging way is qtile or sway on FreeBSD 15.
Let's get out of that slump!
