For all of Donald Trump’s promises of an economic “golden age,”
a spate of weak indicators this week told a worrisome story as the impacts of his policies are coming into focus.
Job gains are dwindling.
Inflation is ticking upward.
Growth has slowed compared with last year.
More than six months into his term, Trump’s blitz of tariff hikes and his new tax and spending bill have remodeled America’s trading, manufacturing, energy and tax systems to his own liking.

The climate crisis wasn't caused by ordinary people—so why are they footing the bill?
Two activists in France are pushing to change that. Their "Tax Their Billions" campaign is shifting public opinion toward making billionaires pay their fair share for climate solutions.
It's about accountability and justice in the transition we desperately need.

Just as during his first term, El Cheato is stealing money for military housing to use for his pet projects.
During the first term that pet project was "the wall".
Now it is to give "bonuses" to active military personnel.
In both cases this means reduced, or no, housing for military families - which is what Congress intended when that taxpayer money was appropriated.
"Trump’s $1,776 ‘warrior dividend’ repurposed from military housing aid"…

Will that make up for the huge VA cuts in his signature tax bill this year?

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly,
nominated by former President Bill Clinton,
said on Friday that the I.R.S. plan to share information with ICE was too broad.
She said that federal law only allows for the I.R.S. to share tax information with other government officials who are directly involved in an ongoing investigation.
The I.R.S. sent the thousands of addresses to a single ICE official, who Judge Kollar-Kotelly said could not have been personally conducting so many i…

Four Republican lawmakers have signed onto
a Democratic-led discharge petition,
which aims to force a vote on a bill to restore tax credits for millions of Americans who receive health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Thot credits are set to expire at the end of this year, unless legislation can be passed to extend them.
Ordinarily, the speaker of the House of Representatives can block legislation from being considered.
But a discharge petition,…

In our European energy transition, the focus is now on competitiveness of our industries and on affordability for households. There's a lot of talk about how to split the bill, between companies and citizens, between higher and lower income households, between tax payers and grid users, between us and future generations.
But I think that ..

The 230-196 vote now sends the bill to the Senate, where a bipartisan group is negotiating the final tex

This fall, Americans got to see what it’s like to go without a safety net for the hungry.
With the U.S. government shut down for multiple weeks
and Donald Trump refusing to fund SNAP, the federal food stamp program,
a panic set inamong the more than 40 million people who rely on it.
Families skipped meals,
and babies went unfed.
Food banks ran out of food, and some people turned to dumpster diving.
It was just a glimpse of what’s to come.
Start…

Good Morning #Canada
Like most Canadians I suspect our grocery bill this week will be over budget as we prepare for a family #Christmas dinner and a week of holiday goodies. But help is on the way in January with the implementation of the Grocery Code of Conduct. Colour me skeptical but I'm not sure this is going to solve the issue of high grocery bills. I understand the attempt to eliminate unnecessary costs in the supply food chain. As a former manager in logistics, the fines and charges for missed delivery windows, fulfillment shortages or even the wrong pallets used, are real. But any reduction in supply chain costs will likely be absorbed as profit, not passed on to consumers. A far more effective solution would be an Excess Profits Tax where companies are charged a penalty tax when they earn profit that is unreasonable or above expectations, such as during COVID or a period of inflation.
