i feel like quite a few of my technical projects recently have started with, essentialy, "ok I know it's nontrivial, but how hard _exactly_ would it be?", with the answer usually ending "frankly more irritating than hard and even then not too much so"

It is oft repeated that you can't solve social problems with technical solutions.
However, there's a flip side to this: you can actually create social problems via technical choices.

Adolescent athletes' cardiovascular system may adapt to increased cardiorespiratory fitness by increasing blood pressure, arterial stiffness and heart growth, a new study shows. The study was conducted in collaboration between the Technical University of Munich and the University of Eastern Finland, and the results were published in the American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology.

Omg, patently wrong. To begin with, I am the one using the GTX 1650, and my video shows that it's working great even with DLSS, as opposed to the viewer with the AMD problem.
