President John F. Kennedy didn’t name the Kennedy Center for himself. Eisenhower signed legislation to create a “National Cultural Center.” Eisenhower and Kennedy fundraised for it. Congress and Johnson only named it in honor of Kennedy after he was assassinated. www.kennedy-center.org/our-story/
