I can’t get enough of #rutgerbregman ‘s first #reithlecture . His analysis of the decay of the West seems accurate to me, but what I really love is his optimism for a future built on a moral revolution. His proposition: just imagine what we could achieve if we self organise and work together…
In a world which has become quite insane, it is perhaps most shocking to witness how society moves on with business as usual while monsters are destroying our cities, killing our children, eating our future and all the potential for greatness we once had.
We have become accustomed to entirely too much cruelty and fuckery. Like frogs in a pot of water being slowly brought to boil.
Glory to the heroes who fight, glory to the heroes who dare to venture into warzones and report the t…
Such intelligent and thoughtful comments from the Singapore PM. It is embarrassing as a USA citizen how foolish and ignorant our leaders are. We need to elect people with much more integrity and competence as they do in Singapore. Singapore is so well run and the USA is now being run into the ground by extremely bad policy. The damage the USA as done to its future this year is beyond calculation. We will be paying for decades for our foolish votes last year.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

There are no plans for Donald Trump to meet with Vladmir Putin “in the immediate future”, a White House official told the Guardian.
The official added that the recent call between secretary of state Marco Rubio and Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov was “productive”, and therefore an additional-in-person meeting between the envoys is “not necessary”.
This comes after Trump announced a yet-to-be determined bilateral summit with Putin in Budapest, Hungary, after his conversati…
Qesser Zuhrah has just been picked up by an ambulance seconds ago. I wish for his survival and future wellbeing. Shame on Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy for not even listening to the hunger strikers and their demands!
The silencing and criminalization of Palestine Action has seen hoards of arrests, with the hunger strikes it may even claim its first lives. We must do everything in our power to prevent this, which means at least giving all arrested a chance to a fair trial!
Child harm/death mention; Columbus
On Indigenous People's Day here in America, it's a great time to:
1. Remember that Columbus was a monster. Anyone who feeds toddlers to dogs actually deserves to burn in hell for eternity. Nothing else about this man should be remembered before this fact.
2. If you're in a colonized country, check out the website(s) for your local indigenous tribe (s) to remind yourself that they're still here. For me, that includes #LandBack, etc.
Me, I'm hopeful for a future in which the US is a distant memory and the hundreds of surviving nations on this territory flourish like budding plants after the winter snow.

Open letter: 40 European companies oppose the EU's "Chat Control" proposal, which forces services to scan messages for CSAM, fearing it would mandate backdoors (CryptPad Blog)

The A.I. insurance market is in its infancy, but Mr. Kvist says mainstream insurers are lining up to back him.
One of his clients is a job recruiting company that uses A.I. to sift through candidates.
“Which is great, but you can now discriminate at a scale we’ve never seen before,” Mr. Kvist said.
“It’s a breeding ground for class-action lawsuits.”
Mr. Kvist believes the work he is doing now will lay the foundation for more complex A.I. insurance policies to come.
