second time this week i am on my bike signalling to turn right into the narrow lane to the school
waiting for the motorist who is blocking the lane to squeeze their car out on to the road
and the motorist stops and tries to encourage me to go first
go where!? it takes them *ages* to realise they are in the way and i can’t go first

I don't know much about Jesus but he died right? Or was he killed? But then he rose from the dead, so he came back, right?
And is there some Second Coming thing where he will return?
But what happened to him after he rose from the dead? Where did he go? Where is he now? Is he in hiding? Was he killed again?
Religion is more confusing than most of the fiction I read.

The political empire of Trump has always been built on vibes, not facts. He was never a successful businessman — he sucked at it, actually — but he •played• one on TV. People voted for the character on The Apprentice, the character in the QAnon posts, the collectively imagined Second Coming cult leader with ripped muscles, the generic racist whose granting of permission to indulge in collective cruelty offered a kind of euphoric bonding.
The facts are never what gave him power.

For decades, one of the most reliable pillars of pro-Israel sentiment in the United States was not just Jews
but conservative Christians.
That support had a theological motive:
Israel mattered not just as an ally on a Cold War map,
but as a central actor on the map of the "End Times".
Put simply, Christians needed Jews to return to the homeland of Israel to usher in the second coming of Christ.
But now, that theological motor is sputtering.
