- In addition, I’d advocate for (1) continuing to recycle what you can’t avoid using and (2) give that city gov endless headaches about their failure to recycle. Show there’s demand for recyclability, get whatever tiny fraction does get recycled out of the waste stream, •and• make headaches for people in positions of power for plastic failing to live up to that demand.

Last month, I spoke with three creditors who are watching today's ruling with great interest — and some skin in the game.
B.C. Supreme Court judges have ordered the farm's owners to repay debts worth more than $250,000 but, up until now, the creditors have been unable to collect. Normally in this kind of situation, a creditor would move to seize the business assets — but because in this case those assets are ostriches caught up in a legal battle, that's been challenging, to say the least.
All three creditors have tried to garnish the CFIA to intercept any money the agency might pay out as compensation for killing the birds (potentially up to $3,000 a bird, the CFIA says) but it remains to be seen how that will work. Military service, National Guard and otherwise, is a pathway to steady pay, to health care, to something resembling the fabled middle class. The Trump crowd can treat the National Guard members as if they are disposable political props in large part because of class dynamics.
@hex@kolektiva.socialColonial nations didn't stop colonialism because they became moral. They stopped because it was untenable. The advancement of asymmetric warfare made it impossible to maintain colonial holdings and those empires crumbled.
The answer was neoliberalism and soft power. Trump had annihilated the financial systems that held that fragile order in place.
#Venezuela will probably end up trying to teach Trump the lesson everyone else learned in the 20th century, but since he's incapable of learning it may very well teach him the lesson Afghanistan taught the USSR.
We'll see how it goes.
It's still possible that we could end up with the US interfering so much that the only people left able to defend space are anarchists. South and Central America actually has some really interesting and advanced anarchist tendencies, so fucking with that could absolutely blow up in Trump (and every other authoritarian's) face.
I hope that the Venezuelan people can take advantage of the situation to get rid of both a shitty dictator and the shitty colonizers who want to replace him.
