We study the category $F$-$\textbf{Mat}_\bullet$ of matroids over an idyll $F$. We show that $F$-$\textbf{Mat}_\bullet$ is a proto-exact category, a non-additive generalization of an exact category by Dyckerhoff and Kapranov.
