I saw a note about how under the new Federal Sales Tax (tariff) regime that it may be better for VW to shut down its US manufacturing and instead import cars from Germany.
That seemed weird until I thought about what VW's US expenses are and how they would be afflicted by the tariff/sales tax.
Much of the cost of a vehicle comes from research and the manufacturing tools (such as robots). The research is already in Germany. And the robots are probably made in Germany or other…
