I really need to get better about muting threads that fuck up my mentions. You know the ones - you make some pithy response or joke to a toot, and then it spawns a long threads between other people that ends up being completely unrelated to the original toot. I love that my shitposts are spawning genuinely respectful conversations on here, but I miss responses I actually care about when you're waxing philosophical about the nature of thought in my menchies. I was doing a little research yesterday to figure out why jws.social can't follow Threads accounts. It sounds like the problem is how incompletely Threads has implemented ActivityPub.
"GoToSocial is notoriously strict when it comes to ActivityPub standards and HTTP signatures. If a remote server sends back a payload that is even slightly malformed, missing required fields, or has an invalid signature, GoToSocial's parser will immediately drop it to protect your instance."

Actually trying to find the source for this, it appears to be from one of those “1,000 things to do on the Web” books from the Y2K era.
I have some books coming to see if it’s in any one of them.
If you search online for this (in a real search engine, not Google) you will find a lot of random Reddit threads that all say it’s an “ad” despite it clearly not being an ad and all images of it are always this specific angled image, just with different crops.
Trying to find the truth where it’s from so stay tuned.

I spent last week on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, and it really exceeded my expectations. Winter is supposed to be a good time to see wildlife and I was not disappointed. Among the many highlights was visiting a sea lion colony that is thought to house about 8% of the entire population of this endangered species. And since this is the Fediverse I should say that their reputation for making bad faith arguments in comment threads is totally undeserved.

Olt is essential that we continue to invest in the strategies that we KNOW & SEE are working, to decrease deaths further:
-Access to naloxone to reverse ODs
-Fentanyl test strips to reduce risk
-Buprenorphine to help people stay clean
-And of course prevention & mental health treatment

I've never skated myself (never taught myself to balance properly) but I loved Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 as a kid and I still like watching skate videos. Just sent the files of a voice over performance for one of @rorschachdc@threads.net’s KLEX ED intensive short plays.
It was fun! I’m excited to hear how the production uses it.
