I really need to get better about muting threads that fuck up my mentions. You know the ones - you make some pithy response or joke to a toot, and then it spawns a long threads between other people that ends up being completely unrelated to the original toot. I love that my shitposts are spawning genuinely respectful conversations on here, but I miss responses I actually care about when you're waxing philosophical about the nature of thought in my menchies. I was doing a little research yesterday to figure out why https://jws.social can't follow Threads accounts. It sounds like the problem is how incompletely Threads has implemented ActivityPub.
"GoToSocial is notoriously strict when it comes to ActivityPub standards and HTTP signatures. If a remote server sends back a payload that is even slightly malformed, missing required fields, or has an invalid signature, GoToSocial's parser will immediately drop it to protect your instance."

Actually trying to find the source for this, it appears to be from one of those “1,000 things to do on the Web” books from the Y2K era.
I have some books coming to see if it’s in any one of them.
If you search online for this (in a real search engine, not Google) you will find a lot of random Reddit threads that all say it’s an “ad” despite it clearly not being an ad and all images of it are always this specific angled image, just with different crops.
Trying to find the truth where it’s from so stay tuned.

I spent last week on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, and it really exceeded my expectations. Winter is supposed to be a good time to see wildlife and I was not disappointed. Among the many highlights was visiting a sea lion colony that is thought to house about 8% of the entire population of this endangered species. And since this is the Fediverse I should say that their reputation for making bad faith arguments in comment threads is totally undeserved.
I probably spent way too much time researching CMS/blog for my #astrojs website hosted on Cloudflare
There are dozens of threads on Reddit, lots of options.

The official warned that U.S. military operations would be kneecapped by dwindling stockpiles of air defense and long-range munitions,
as well as widespread damage to U.S. military bases in the Middle East.
“We do not have enough to safely sustain operations, and I don’t think the White House is aware of that,” the official added.

Just finished "Skating Wilder" written by Brandon Dumais and illustrated by AJ Dungo. It's a really amazing graphic novel history of skateboarding, from the 1960s through to the present. It's got multiple threads from the commercial angle, to the magazines and music, to the individual tricks.
I've never skated myself (never taught myself to balance properly) but I loved Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 as a kid and I still like watching skate videos. I learned a lot of details from this book that I never knew growing up and the way it talks about skating surviving multiple waves of commercialization is inspiring.

One downside of enforced brevity in social media is that it leads (ironically) towards redundancy when one creates threads. The brain has a tendency to loop back to recent prior ideas and one can end up saying basically the same things but structured and worded upside down and inside out.
