Thanks to @… for the lovely mug (it’s not blurry IRL).

Here's my #wrapstodon 2025. I guess #OpenSCAD was a topic for me. Nice feature, maybe it will inspire me to be a little more active at here at toot.community

I forgot that I actually enjoy coding tests. Pulling apart a small problem, working through the algorithms, and building something that addresses a targeted problem is pretty fun
I’m supposed to do one of these but I’m on a plane and already amazed to be able to even post this at 34,000 feet somewhere south of Greenland. Also the notion of traveling again so soon is making my tummy womble.

Now the whole goal is to get them to match a fully discovered in-game map so that the location data I get from this can be used on the site to search and highlight locations later in the process. They have to be correct first, and some work out almost fine, while others do not. Going through https://wago.tools/db2/ h…

A #firefly reboot would be nice.
Finally got around to working on some data mining and processing for https://www.wyrimaps.net/wow/ by generating the in-game world maps. With some varying success, while to a certain degree, these maps are technically somewhat correct. They make no sense.

I really don't understand how anybody can justify continuing to use twitter.

As we’re landing, crew asks everyone to stay seated so paramedics can get into the back of the plane. Seatbelt sign goes off, 5 people in my section promptly stand up and start yanking luggage from the overhead bins. Some bins left open when crew scolds people back to their seats.
Big Think is pop-sci drivel with a questionable cast of ‘experts’ that still lives on MechaHitler’s CSAM-generating platform and (based on its accessibility statement) uses an overlay (I block them, so not sure which).

Recently, I suggested to someone who doesn't like most VPS or shared hosting providers that they look at a colocation provider. I was surprised about how cheap that is. It got me wondering if I should look at it. (I should not.)

Neither Deque nor accessiBe appears to have met its promise / goal of 100% WCAG coverage by the end of 2025.
Granted, accessiBe scrubbed that date years ago, before the FTC fined it for false claims about ‘AI’.
Yet both still promote ‘AI’ solutions.

I've never liked winter weather but this is getting exceptionally irritating.
Timberborn added HTTP support in their latest version. Both sending and receiving requests. Just a URL, no body or anything. But that is enough to have it signal my @… instance about whether I have enough logs or not in stock. On a trigger, it sends a GET request to HA, and HA announces it through a voice satellite:
I’m so old I only design for Desktop Suit Gundam.
This years ‘tile’ pattern is last year’s ‘card’ pattern, which is the prior year’s ‘block’ pattern, which is just a reformulation of the ‘slide’ that was yanked from the ‘slider’ that didn’t slide and it was always and still is a pile of nested fucking `<div>`s with an event handler on an `<a href="#">`.
Well done, design system monkeys. Well done.

My home server is still running, but the web KVM isn't. I'm not sure how long it will be before I get annoyed enough to fix it.
Bezos did shit like https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/washington-post-will-no-longer-make-presidential-endorsements-rcna177319, got everyone to cancel their subscriptions, and then demanded deep cuts to the paper as a result. I think that everyone knew exactly how this was going to turn out.

I give monthly to PBS, NPR, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Urban Milwaukee because I appreciate what they do, but there are soooo many others that put out the occasional article I want to read but can't justify paying a monthly or annual fee for. I wish there were an equivalent to the Libby magazine rack for stuff like the Wall Street Journal or The Verge.

10 years ago today was my first day as a solo digital accessibility consultant.
Yes, that’s me on a balance ball on bubble wrap. I hadn’t quite filled my sales pipeline yet.

My StoryGraph 2025 reading wrap-up was generated two hours before the new year and one hour before I finished another book — so it’s not reflected in the stats.
Anyway if you’re curious where I spend my free time:

10 years ago today I exited my own company to go all-in on digital accessibility as a solo consultant.

I did what I always do and checked how much one of the new IPads would cost in the spec that I would want. It's $1249. I would rather buy gently used than spend $1249 on an iPad, but it is good to know.

It's been years since I last used Notepad on a daily basis but a likely "Chinese state-sponsored group" using it as an attack vector still feels too close to home.

"Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, South Milwaukee, and Oconomowoc have changed their zoning ordinances and taken other steps in recent years to encourage construction of ADUs. Shorewood and Waukesha are considering zoning changes to allow ADUs, with the topic surfacing as an issue in Brookfield's mayoral race."

In February, I received an email from CarFax estimating the mileage on my 2016 at 464,371 miles. Yesterday, I got into the car during the snowstorm, turned on the wipers, and realized that I really need to get them replaced right now, and after going through the quick change joint in the neighborhood, it looks like they now know the real milage.

You can buy a can of Red Bull from Walgreens for $3.69. You can buy a 4-pack of Red Thunder from Aldi for $3.65. I can't detect a difference between the two. It's cheaper to just drink tea but if you need to wake up quickly, off-brand seems to be the way to go.
I tried installing Clawd Bot / Molt Bot / OpenClaw (https://openclaw.ai) on a Mac that isn't a daily driver, but couldn't get it to work. 🤷♂️
... I'm not too sure if that is feasible, though. I have a former coworker who stopped writing code to start selling houses and I figured that I'm going to start by picking his brain over a cup of coffee.
I also figure that I have ~5 years before the cost of doing such a thing will normalize in any way in America. If every part of the process has a 150% tariff on the cost of materials, it probably won't be worth it.
... That would make working remotely pretty easy. With my house at the back of the lot and the neighbor's house at the front of the lot, I have started thinking about the idea of building a new house in the front yard and then having the current house declared an ADU by the city. I could build the house of my dreams in a neighbourhood that I like, rent the old house out to offset the cost, and hopefully come out the other end without too much pain. ...
In 2012, I bought the least expensive house (in a reasonable condition) that I could find in the most expensive zip code in the area. I like the neighborhood and the house is comfortable but this is my front yard. Over the years, I have thought about upgrading to something more. I have also thought about buying a condo in Mexico and spending part of the year there in hopes of eventually getting dual citizenship. After all, Mexico City is in the same time zone as Milwaukee. ...
It looks like it's snowing again
... For the first month, I checked the status on a daily basis. I can't do that anymore.
It has been two months, three weeks, and three days since I requested PSLF Buyback and it has been one month and two weeks since I was told "processing can take up to 90 business days" (over four months) but "there is currently a backlog and may take more time to process your request than usual."
