The Candlekeep campaign has ended.
The unfailingly optimistic and jovial cleric, Ned, once again waded into the front lines to heal and fight. Having defeated the elder god by closing a portal (because a fair fight would’ve been bad), they’ve all decided to rest for a bit.

A painted gaming mini of a large (15 feet in game terms) fleshy creature with a mostly intestine-like body, tentacles, grasping elongated arms, and no discernable head, resting on a gaming map on a horizontal television screen.
A gaming mini of a slightly doughy white human with brown hair and mustache in chainmail holding a holy symbol up at arms’ length, surrounded by some six-sided dice with uneven dots and a large D20 with an image of Rick Astley in the 20 position.
The same cleric mini, but now the tabbard on his back is visible and it reads, “Weddings while you wait,” which is surrounded by hearts.

I feel like contextual clicks inside of apps are an anti-pattern (especially on touchscreens). I click on a toot over here, and it loads the toot. I click on the toot over there, and it loads the link to whatever article they linked to. Click in yet another spot, and it loads this profile of the person who made the toot. This is all inside a 1in x 2in rectangle. My thumb takes up half the rectangle. Like, wtf.
As laptop touchpads get worse, this is becoming a problem there too!

Hot damn, new NAS can burst, old one would do 100 - 170 items on average - max. The new one just boosted to 5 - 10 times that. Seen it write up to 200MB/s back to it. Measures in place to keep Raspberry Pi nodes in the thermal safe zone even kicked in. They did 1.8TB in 9 hours, old NAS would need the full day to handle this much traffic.

RE: #a11y #accessibility

None of this is about one bad app or one flawed feature. It’s a pattern. The whole industry builds accessibility for one disability at a time, and multiply disabled people fall through the gap between features. When VoiceOver turns off touch accommodations, that’s not a bug. It’s the whole model, made visible.

While in Jamestown, NY, I hit the library (as one does on vacation). It was having a book sale. There was a rack of Amish romance (Jamestown is adjacent to lots of Amish country).
I was quite tempted to buy some. Especially this Amish retelling of “Sense and Sensibility.”
I just need to know!

Sixty softcover books across three wall racks some turned to show the cover (“Amish Picnic”, “Her Amish Chaperone”, “Naomi’s Gift: An Amish Christmas Story”, “The Journey”), most of the rest with matching light blue spines (“Her Reluctant Amish Heart”, ”The Amish Widowers Surprise”, “Her Pretend Amish Beau”, “The Amish Nanny’s Marriage Offer”, “Grave Amish Secrets”).
“Sense and Sensibility, an Amish retelling of Jane Austen’s classic” by Sarah Price from The Amish Classics Series; the cover shows a fetching young woman with her eyes up and to the side with a quirked smile and a finger to her chin; over her shoulder is another young woman smiling and looking directly at the viewer; they are both wearing single color crew neck dresses and their hair pulled back under white bonnets with two long strings hanging behind their ears and down their shoulders.

Even though I had a few Rick-Rolls (a natural 1 on my Rick Astley D20) early in the night, my cleric finally got to use Turn Undead (on a very large bad guy). And Eric finally got to use the ship model he printed and painted forever ago.

A model of a three-masted galleon in scale for 28mm miniatures, painted with some detail work, sitting on television screen embedded in a table, showing blue ocean water.
A closer view of the deck of the ship, a large orc is squared off against three party members at a safe distance, with a cleric (circled in yellow) standing next to him, back to the trailing, holding out his holy symbol.
A large glitter-filled transparent teal 20-sided die sitting with the number 1 showing in pink with the text “Rick Roll”; the three adjacent faces are “7 never”, “19 let”, and “13 down”.
