Well it sure does sound like Eugen exited for a measly €1M and Mastodon is left with the co-founder of Twitter in a leadership position. I mean, is it too much to ask for for the alternatives to not be run by the same people who built the things they purport to be an alternative to? I guess we should count ourselves lucky it’s not Elon Musk. 🤷‍♂️

A few pictures from yesterday night at the #39C3
(License: CC BY-SA 4.0)

A dimly lit large room with some round and square tables. All sorts of light installations re cluttered on the table and in the room: LEDs on strings hanging from the ceiling that form a cylinder on one table, colorful LED stripes and theater lights in the background. The desks are filled with electronic equipment like 3D printers, laptops, power outlets and alike.
A large dimly lit hall with a big rocket ("Fairy Dust") in the front. A toroid-like shape with mirrors like a disco ball is hanging from the ceiling surrounded by several large rings. Powerful light beams shine through sparse fog and the reflections of the toroid mirrors are projected onto the walls. Stairways are decorated with several banners ("OpenWrt", "Trans right are human rights", "Amnesty International" etc.)
A white van with the medical cross logo from Cadus is lit with colorful red/orange/violet lights and medical/technical gear (flight cases, pumps etc.) is on display around the van. In the background blurry light dots and more colorful light is visible in a dimly lit hall.
A hallway in a dimly lit large hall is surrounded by decorated walls. Posters from the 39C3 motto ("Power Cycles") are hung up on the walls, others are decorated with fluorescent tape that shines in neon colors in the blueish/violet UV light. More LED stripes and some spotlights create a colorful atmosphere.

It blocks ads, display posts in chronological order, hide suggestions or promoted posts, etc. Works for Windows Edge/Chrome/Firefox & iOS/Android.

This is an amazing chart. Hundreds of millions of people out there using Threads every day. But I've never in my life had a conversation with someone
about using Threads, posting on Threads, mentioning something they saw on Threads. It has a…

Derrick Ross from Shakespeare reckons there open web is in trouble because you got to be a dev to build a website.
He seems to think his app Shakespeare can make it easier to make a web app by using ai 😕
"Build me a Twitter like website" is the kind of instruction he thinks it will handle.
A local app running on your own machine, though calling the big ai model apis. Including if you have the power at home to run deep seek or open models.
I find myself suspecting it'd be hard for vibe coders who aren't devs to tell if they had vibe coded buggy insecure software or not.

Chances are, you’ve seen Richard Tsong-Taatarii’s photo.
Taken Wednesday in Minneapolis,
it shows an unidentifiable protester face down on the ground;
two Border Patrol agents are on top of him,
holding him there,
while a third unloads pepper spray into his face from just inches away.
The photo ran on the front page of The Minnesota Star Tribune on Friday
and already feels like a defining image of the long ICE incursion in Minneapolis
