A long-promised makeover of the VA’s West L.A.’s historic Building 13 will create just 24 units of homeless veteran housing
-- at an estimated $1.25 million per apartment,
-- likely a record-setting cost.
The renovation, financed through VA funds and tax credits,
highlights tension over the campus’s future,
pitting housing plans against earlier visions of a bustling veterans town center.
The project unfolds amid court orders to add thousands of units on t…

VA homeless housing estimated to cost a record $1.25 million-a-unit
Twenty-four housing units costing $1.25 million each are included in the rehab of a historic building on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles disappointing veteran advocates who hoped the space would be used as a gathering place for veterans on and off the campus.

"Palais" en français, simple "maison" en allemand: l'origine de la double appellation du Palais fédéral
Ses coupoles évoquent à elles seules le pouvoir politique. Pourtant, le 'Palais' du français n'est qu'une simple 'Maison' fédérale en allemand. Deux appellations qui dénotent, depuis 132 ans, deux visions de la démocratie de part et d'autre de la Sarine.

Officially an engraver and accorded the lowly status thereof,
William Blake devoted his labors to realizing his elaborately idiosyncratic visions using images and words together in ways that no artist had done before.
Blake swam against the current “of modern human understanding, whose bedrock is the principle of specialization.”
Today, nearly two centuries after his death, that principle still obtains -- and in some ways more rigidly than ever.
But his work remains,

The Radical, Unclassifiable Art of William Blake
William Blake is a household name, or not far from it, but things get more complicated when it comes to professional description. He was a poet, a painter, and a printmaker, at least insofar as he wrote poetry, painted paintings, and made prints.

People think Proportional Representation is extreme. Or that constituencies should have multiple MPs for diversity.
My visions are much more radical.
Geography is bunk. If local people want a local MP they can appoint one.
But if sea-side people around the cost want one? Or cyclists? Or Subgenii?
Why does everyone care so much about geography? Your MP is not fixing the local pot-holes. They're representing your political interests which may not be those of your neighbors.
We have a system where like 75% of people have a representative they didn't vote for and don't agree with and half the remaining were holding their nose to keep the opposition out.
Elections are a very sucky way to do democracy. Just let me nominate my representative, and then everyone can have a representative they agree with and picked personally.
