This is my 1st time learning of #Guacamole, despite being an ASF Member. Looks cool…
Basically a J2EE app that talks HTML5 with WebSocket (or falls back to a custom HTTP-based stream proto) to a JS client in the browser on the front end, and speaks its own abstract remote desktop proto to a backend proxy that talks RDP or VNC to desktop servers. Apparently there’s also a X11 graphics drive…

screengrab from Guac docs explaining its history:

Historically, Guacamole was an HTML5 VNC client, and before that, a JavaScript Telnet client called RealMint ("RealMint" is an anagram for "terminal"), but this is no longer the case. Touchegg still catches that event fine, and switches desktop, but it doesn't work under Wayland. My UX is still miles better in X11. Under Wayland, I'll just have to give up using a 4-finger swipe to change desktops while in a full-screen VNC/RDP session. This is…

@… I've since found if I VNC into my RasPi5 and run Remmina there, it can RDP into Gnome on Pop. The same login credentials fail in every iPad app.
