Many of them are male bees who are not welcome back in the hive. They live short lives where hopefully they get to mate before the end of the season. A shame they're reduced to only being breeders. This is actually a post about feminism.

@jake4480@c.imStarting up a run of Dreamscaper on Switch to try it tonight, grabbed it for super cheap ($4.99 for 10 more days) in the eshop, it's like you're this gal and it's an isometric Diablo-esque looking thing, the combat, but it's also very dream based, you do things in the waking world and I believe you battle when you sleep. So it'll be interesting to see how it goes.
