I’m just happy I’m getting more reputable dev outlets to share my Greatest Of All Time Says Everyone image:

I have a trick I call "The 1920 Method".
I resize most images to 1920 pixels wide before I post them to Mastodon or to my own web site. This has allowed me to keep things small, and fast, and not have to increase server space or feel like I'm putting a burden on other systems.
You'd be surprised how many images we share online work just fine at lower resolution.
I think this seems like a good idea.

Somewhere between my original vision for web 1.0 and the rise of social media as part of web 2.0,
we took the wrong path.
We’re now at a new crossroads,
one where we must decide if AI will be used for the betterment or to the detriment of society.
How can we learn from the mistakes of the past?
First of all, we must ensure policymakers do not end up playing the same decade-long game of catchup they have done over social media.
The time to decide the go…

We are pleased to announce the release of CTI-Transmute.org, a new free and open-source service designed to facilitate conversions between MISP and STIX 2.x formats.
The service is available both through a web interface and an API, allowing users to convert CTI data easily. The web UI also gives users the option to share or keep private their conversions for further review or collaboration.
You can view an example conversion here: 🔗
»Why Shortened URLs Pose a Security Risk«
On Mastodon / Fediverse, shortening the URL is not necessary at all, because they are not marked in their full length. Apart from the shorter tracking, their data collection frenzy as well as their timing is also very inconvenient.

If you're advertising (academic) jobs via email/Slack/Zulip/etc and want broad circulation it's really helpful to also have a link to an associated web page to make it easier for folks to share these positions on socials, in other Slacks/Zulips, etc. It doesn't need to be an official job ad, just a page on your website/blog that includes the same information.
On this #Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for all the people that came before us, and left us this beautiful earth to live on. I want to share it with all our descendants to come as well.
I’m thankful for *you*, for giving it your best to make the social web a success. I want to preserve this vision of the web, and share it with my son when he once comes of age.
Finished “I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom” by Jason Pargin. A Lyft driver is asked by a woman to drive her and a mysterious box across the country for $200k. The rules are that he cannot look inside, nor ask about the contents. Everything comes undone along the way in a mostly fun, pulpy thriller kind of way.
Some dark satire about anxiety, the web, social media, public discourse, incels, etc.
3.5/5 stars, rounded up to 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just found a unique spammy / cloaking result on Kagi's search engine to a web page published in the last week. It is identical to the same unique result on Google. It does not exist on Bing. I take this as evidence Kagi search sometimes uses Google search. (Unfortunately can't share the search, it's a little private.)

Approximately 18% of SNAP recipients are over 60.
That’s over 7 million people.
A lot of those people have few options to generate more income.
