This removes the requirement for people on macOS to upgrade the ancient version of Bash that Apple ships with their desktop operating system. (If you’re on Linux none of this was ever an issue for you.)¹
• Updates runtime to Node 24.12.0, the latest long-term support (LTS) version.

And what a relief that NOIRLab has now posted - https://noirlab.edu/public/images/iotw2549a/ - this beautiful and apparently unmanipulated picture of Lemmon over Mauna Kea on 12 November. Yes, it reached 3 point something mag. and had nice tails in the end but it was not a great comet by any means: just look how small and faint it appears next to the southern Milky Way!

3 years into being part of Mastodon, I continue to be impressed with how wonderful the people here are and how much this social network actually FEELS social. People replying to one another, having conversations, learning things, sharing moments of joy, making friends.
Mastodon brought my business clients, helped me gain confidence in my own voice, freed me from dependence on big tech and algorithms, rekindled my interests, introduced me to incredible people and projects, and served as a source of hope in humanity in the times when cynicism and nihilism felt all but inevitable.
I love our little corner of the internet, and am so glad that it’s still here despite everyone who professed it was doomed to fade into irrelevance.
Thank you to everyone reading these words for being here on the Fedi. The world is a little better thanks to your choice to support an independent web.

I especially wanted to highlight one phrase which stood out to me:
"Since the pandemic began".
A lot of people would have said "Since the pandemic" or "during the pandemic" - as if it were over now.
I'm thinking: _Someone_ on his team knows the difference. I'm not saying it's definitely ZP himself, I expect he takes input from colleagues on the speech-writing, but still. _Someone_ there knows the pandemic is still happening.
There's an allusion to air quality as well.
