Abstract: We present an in-depth analysis on how to build and train neural networks to estimate the spatial distribution of scattered radiation fields for radiation protection dosimetry in medical radiation fields, such as those found in Interventional Radiology and Cardiology. Therefore, we present three different synthetically generated datasets with increasing complexity for training, using a Monte-Carlo Simulation application based on Geant4. On those datasets, we evaluate convolutional and fully connected architectures of neural networks to demonstrate which design decisions work well for reconstructing the fluence and spectra distributions over the spatial domain of such radiation fields. All used datasets as well as our training pipeline are published as open source in separate repositories.

Until I finally remembered that the second slot on the left side of the AMD Framework models doesn't do video output. 🤦

On orientations preserving edge-connectivity in infinite graphs
We prove that every 2k-edge-connected graph with countably many edge-ends admits a k-arc-connected orientation, extending the previous result by Assem, Koloschin and Pitz that also assumed the hypothesis of the graph being locally finite. We prove that, if every locally finite graph has a well-balanced orientation, so does every graph. Lastly, we explore an alternative to the Nash-Williams Orientation Conjecture via topological paths, and prove that it is true for every finitely separated graph.

Decided to give Postgresus a go for managing my DB backups and monitoring. Connected Vaultwarden and Immich's DBs to it, have them backing up to Backblaze B2 for offsite backups, and connected email and Discord notifications just in case the DBs eat themselves somehow. The backups work pretty well, gonna see how things go with it.

We show that the problem of identifying different signal components from a time-frequency representation can be equivalently phrased as a graph clustering problem: given a graph $G=(V,E)$ one aims to identify `clusters', subgraphs that are strongly connected and have relatively few connections between them. The graph clustering problem is well studied, we show how these ideas can suggest (many) new ways to identify signal components. Numerical experiments illustrate the ideas.
