Diplomacy is a profession , an art maybe. Scholz is not mastering it and doesn't think about deterrence and deliberate/strategic ambiguity etc. Instead he makes absolutely clear Russia does not need to fear NATO troops and weapons in any context in Ukraine. True maybe, but why make Putin more secure and confident ?
Maybe he should agree a pact like in the Molotov-Ribbentrop days (being cynical here).

14/ Eine Sache, die #AnneRabe immer wieder vom harten Leben der #OstMütter zu berichten weiß, ist, dass die extrem früh aufstehen mussten, dann Kinder wegbringen, arbeiten und dann Haushalt.
Meine Eltern gingen auch kurz vor 7:00 zur Arbeit. Ich hörte dann immer „Was ist denn heut bei Findigs los?“
#Osten hat früh angefangen. Auch meine Eltern. Die waren beide Wissenschaftler, da hätte das im Prinzip auch 9:00 sein können, war aber nicht. Jetzt, wo ich drüber nachdenke, lag das wahrscheinlich daran, dass für uns Kindergartenkinder 7:35 Töpchenzeit war. Das hatte der Pfeiffer ja schon erforscht. Eigentlich sind wir deshalb alle so komisch geworden.
Also: What is the point? Man könnte höchstens darauf hinweisen, dass die Arbeitszeit im Osten länger war als im Westen.
Was stimmt – und da hat Anne Rabe Recht – es gab ein massives Wohnungsproblem. Die alten Häuser brachen zusammen und neue bekam man nicht so schnell gebaut.
Und Außenklo und Ofenheizung. Ja. Klar. War nicht schön. Aber wenn man überhaupt ne Wohnung hatte, dann war das schon mal OK. Ich hatte 89 eine Wohnung im Prenzlauer Berg bekommen (lange Geschichte), in der vorher eine sehr alte Frau gelebt hatte. Sie hatte noch ne Kochmaschine in der Wohnung und ein Waschbecken mit einem Wasserhahn, aus dem kaltes Wasser kam. Ich habe dann von der KWV eine Duschkabine besorgt. Kostete 3000M und ich musste ein bisschen diskutieren. Gasheizung in der Küche habe ich auch hinbekommen. Zimmer war Ofen. Ging. Und Waschmaschinen gab es im Osten auch. Ich hatte auch eine. Steht schon im Blogpost über Waschmaschinen und Homosexuelle.

This is damning with faint praise, but it is a statement of just how far "Conservatism" has fallen when you consider he was the host for the signing of the Montreal Protocol which banned Ozone hole creating CFCs and he led Canada as an Environmental leader in the 90s.
Unthinkable for today's Conservatives....
He's also our Reagan... and corrupt... so there's that....

I vividly remember a scene in a movie or TV series which dramatized the Apollo 15 postal cover scandal.

Surprised I missed saying something on the exact date (Jan 25, 1994) but 30 years ago as of that date, my favorite *album* of all time was released. The Smithereens may be my favorite *band* overall & I love their albums, but my favorite album is Too High to Die by the Meat Puppets.
