@… it's hard for us to fathom how antisemitic *most countries* were at the time, if not murderously like the Nazis, and would refuse visas to Jewish refugees. Anne Frank's father Otto was refused asylum by the United States, for instance, and Cuba granted a visa only to him and not his family.

NFL Week 5 Sunday aftermath: Commanders melt down in tie, Eagles rue costly last-second gaffe nfl.com/news/nfl-week-5-sunday

The Senate race in Kansas is still a very tough challenge for Democrats.
But if there’s any way to win such a contest, it would be in a situation like this one,
where Trump is so overwhelmingly destructive toward voters’ interests
—and the GOP incumbent so obviously unwilling to act as a check on him
—that it allows Democrats to reach voters usually off limits to them.

In 2001 there were no iphones, email was the predominant form of all online communications, people were arguing about the utility of TCP MD5 auth on BGP sessions, and there was no such thing as passive DNS.
I was a volunteer helping with the "shownet" at Networld Interop in Atlanta on September 11. This would be the last N I I would attend.
Volunteers from umich brought up a live TV news stream via IP multicast from their university into a TV by the NOC where many of the teams and vendors could watch events unfold. I believe we saw the second plane hit on that TV that morning.
Surely a bit of exaggeration of our importance, but some couldn't help but wonder about the potential loss to the Internet community if there was some sort of attack in Atlanta that day.
The first rumor/conspiracy I heard was when someone told me a number of people of a certain religious persuasion did not show up for work at CNN that day, as if they all were in on it.
I remember the same night, many bars and restaurants were open. I remember seeing some (not many) people I knew partying almost like nothing happened and I will forever feel guilt just for being there.
My friends from umich and I ended up driving back home due to days-long closure/restrictions of the airspace. For weeks after ever I'd get triggered when I heard a plane in the sky, an eventually increasingly occurrence when you live and work around the Loop in Chicago.
Infosec was already becoming increasingly important, but that day was perhaps a real milestone when it began to eventually eclipse networking in importance, organizational decision making, and commercial product focus.

"The ruling also faulted DHS & FEMA leaders for destroying evidence. Illston found officials deleted messages on the Signal app using auto-delete timers they set themselves. She concluded that Evans "acted with the intent to deprive plaintiffs" of those messages. Going forward, the court will presume the deleted texts would have hurt the government's case, Illston wrote."

Q: What’s the timeline for the next director to be hired?
A: We are looking at getting that whole process started this fall. It could take as long as next spring. It sort of depends on how the process goes. But I would hope that by next summer, we would have someone identified at least.

I've been dusting off my #ScottishIndependence canvassing app, to see how hard it would be to get it working if a new #IndyRef did actually happen.
It's suffered much less bit rot than I thought. It's mostly ready to go, there are still some issues to fix.

The YouYesYet app welcome page. A blue screen with a big 'Project Hope' logo in the centre, 'You yes yet?' at the top, and 'Yes' and 'No' buttons on the right.
The login screen. A blue screen with 'Please log in' at the top, and buttons for oauth providers at the right.

Below is a login form with conventional username and password boxes, but that's intended to be temporary. The idea is not to store people's passwords for security reasons, but to use well known oauth verification services; but for testing there is a login system.
The map screen. A blue screen showing a map with flags where the homes of electors we want to canvas are.
