Seems to now be working that I can lay in the path that the character will walk, and then puppet their limbs as they walk it.

They are an antagonist, not villain. You can't say that someone who's only trying to go home is evil. Well, OK they're not going about it in the best of ways. But they're not evil, just ... weird.
