Right! After, frankly, way too much work, I once again have a garden gate which opens properly and easily both ways, and which closes and latches properly and easily. I don't love the galvanised steel gatepost, but it should not need to be replaced again in my lifetime.

My re-hung garden gate, open. Behind it, the short frosty turf of my meadows stretch away to the horizon; a few black cattle graze under a blue sky.
My gate, closed, from the outside. The strainer post is noticably squint, which I'm not at all proud about, but it's good enough. In the foreground, the old posts lie on the frosty ground.

When people talk about the Enlightenment as if it were an intellectual garden party where everyone sipped wine and agreed about reason, they're missing the part where producing and distributing ideas was (in fact) dangerous and thankless work.

Getting to the very end of last year’s garden harvest and preservation work. Harvested and froze the leeks. Made a potent Louisiana Style Jalapeño sauce and simple Taco Sauce from some fermented Jalapeños. Already ready for this year’s harvest. 🤣 🌱

Wow, loving our greenhouse - already have the first tomatoes turning red! Only a couple weeks into summer (not even proper summer, 22 Dec in Aotearoa, yet) Crazy! This is months before we've ever had ripening fruit pre-greenhouse.

Photo from near the ground in a garden patch inside a greenhouse, looking at a small group of tomatoes on a tomato bush, two of which are turning red. A number of other tomato plants are nearby, some with many still green tomatoes. In the foreground is a timber upright with wires going through it which run the length of the garden and are used to tie up the tomatoes in a row. The plants are tied to the steel wires with strips of old bicycle inner tubes. They work great!

The thing you need to understand about the Right is that
they are absolutely fine just plain burning down higher education
if taking it over ideologically doesn’t work.
They’re perfectly happy reducing it to ashes.
