I can't stop laughing at how nonsensical it is to use the XKCD block tower supported by tiny block meant to represent a open source project maintained by one person for the cloudflare outage. It's not some tiny one person operation.

Randall Munroe's #XKCD comic has the power to make you laugh, to make you think ... and sometimes to make you cry. For the right reasons.
Damn.
It's just onions. One onion. A small one.
Shit.

I think about XKCD's lucky ten-thousand very often:

But the birth rate in the UK is about 600K not 4M.... So in the UK, it would really be lucky 1500 which doesn't have quite the same ring.
xkcd 3177 is wild. The explain xkcd article is even wilder.

I’d venture that the situation depicted in the classic and obligatory xkcd on the topic (https://xkcd.com/2347/) is rooted in the failure to distinguish (1) and (2).
So is a lot of OSS burnout: somebody shares something cool in the spirit of (1), maybe even tries to be a good individual steward of it, and next thing you know people are beating down their door with demands and complaints as if they are (2).

Sometimes I understand why people design new standards or formats when the existing ones can’t be extended (whether due to practical constraints, authority, or bureaucracy) or simply aren’t flexible enough to evolve. I think the XKCD comic doesn’t include that aspect.
And yes, maybe new standards will appear.

@… LOL, I actually wondered the same thing. Maybe the XKCD is wrong and you should have to try and create a tar command that is not valid! 😂

@… Tar's biggest issue is that its options are so involved and there are so many implementations of tar that people do tend to mess up the switches. To be fair to you it is not a surprise that you picked the wrong options. I mean… xkcd.com 1168. 😉
