Background PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), known as ‘forever chemicals’, are a group of 10,000+ chemicals known to be highly persistent, with growing evidence of harm to human and environmental health. Trifluoracetic acid (TFA) is a mobile, short-chain PFAS which can be formed from the partial breakdown of other PFAS, including those used in some pesticides and refrigerants. With widespread PFAS use, TFA concentrations have risen drastically over the past decade, prompting scientifi…

It seems like, again, just following the plain logic of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence (which, again, I do not subscribe to), that every law passed under Trump, every supreme court justice appointment by Trump, every supreme court ruling by Trump appointed justices, all the illegal firing, etc, must all, necessarily, be null and void.
And if not following from the insurrection act, or from the oath of office, then following from the Declaration of Independence itself. The logic here being that a constitution is a contract between the people and their government, which the later upholds in order to maintain its legal status. The violation of said laws by the government violates "consent of the governed" (which, again, I have issues with the concept entirely but we're just going to ignore that) and therefore nullifies the authority of that government, granting " the right of the people to alter or to abolish it."
That seems a lot like the hard reset some folks have been looking for. Given that existing flaws allowed this state to be reached, it would also be necessary for the true authority to correct those mistakes before assuming authority that derives from these principles.
Now, personally, I don't subscribe to any of this logic but it's interesting to explore, as an outsider, where the logic goes.

@MrCyjaneK is correct that a server can only provide CalDAV updates if it has full access to the content. This is because the CalDAV protocol and clients have no concept of end-to-end encryption.

We currently have no plans to offer users the ability to reveal calendar data to the server in this manner, but if the CalDAV protocol ever evolves to include e2e encryption we'd be interested in supporting that.

I'd venture this backlash isn’t just because of one Epstein PR mistake. It’s because Trump smells weak and vulnerable, and his supporters are looking for an exit. The MAGA types loved Trump because he made them feel like winners. And right now he doesn’t.
That doesn't mean we win, yay, time to kick back. His supporters are in an abusive relationship, and they will find it hard to leave.
What this means is − keep the pressure up. ←

Apologies for the downtime on phpc.social this morning. Restarted services a little too early. We're good to go now (indexing ElasticSearch items in the background for the rest of the day but the site is functional otherwise).
In related news, phpc.social is now running Mastodon 4.4.1, hence it looking a bit different from before if you're using the web UI.

I’ve been having a conversation in my head with my friend Jac Mullen. One of his provocative ideas is that we’re better off dropping the term “artificial intelligence,” and instead calling these new technologies “artificial attention.”

This is the future #Republicans want for you and your children

A clip from the music video for Igorrr's "ADHD." There's a little kid wearing a puffy mustard-colored suit and a big brain helmet, but he's not really a little kid, he's a shrunken man with a moustache. Then there's a giant brain float tethered to a car driving down a street. Next is a man lying on a couch in a psychologist's office looking uncomfortable and then the shrink himself appears. He looks like a shrink. Then there are some brains with 2, 3, or 4 long chicken legs walking on a beach. …

I'm interested in making my own visualizations of weather radar data to display patterns in a region of the US (covered by multiple stations) over longish periods of time (e.g., a month).
Think something like this year of US radar, but smaller & shorter in my case: youtube.com/watch?v=FPuDPxK88g
I'm familiar with mapping and animation in Python/R, but not weather radar data. I've been looking for tutorials, but haven't been able to track any down yet. Pointers very much welcome

I work not far from where Salford University have their graduation ceremony and honestly I think it might be my favourite day of the year.
Whether it's proud parents looking awkward in posh suits & fancy frocks, or embarrassed students looking awkward in posh suits, fancy frocks and graduation gowns, it's a perfect people watching extravaganza.

Single panel cartoon.
A human doctor is wearing a long white lab coat and one of those stereotypical round mirror thingies that doctors don’t wear on their heads anymore but cartoonists draw anyway, with a clipboard in one hand, is reaching out to an anthropomorphic tabby cat sitting on a bench looking worried. The doctor says, “Bad news, it’s curiosity.”

Autism is real as hell, and autism is fucking awesome. Fuck the haters, fuck anyone who’s “anti-autism,” and fuck domestic violence against autistic people.
I exist, I’m proud, and I’m not going anywhere. Autism power, always fucking rad!
Mistakes happen, and I gotta work on myself, lmao! You do you, and I’ll do me. Cool? Cool.

On Saturday I met Freddie greyhound, Mandy greyhound's nephew¹. Mandy passed away in 2021.
Coincidentally both homed by WGW and Freddie now lives a few miles from where Mandy lived her pet life. His human knows Mandy's humans well.
Considering the rather small greyhound gene pool this is not unusual. Mandy's sire has had over 5,000 offspring so far.

It must be not subscription based.

Hi! I’m an anarcho-syndicalist, gender-fluid, bisexual, and autistic individual living in Bergen, Norway, and I love Debian and GrapheneOS, and I wanted to reintroduce myself for all the new followers I’ve gotten in the past few weeks.
I like to be clear and specific, so here’s a structured list:
- Activism: Syndicalist (Anarcho-syndicalism)
- Gender: Fluid (changes, not fixed)
- Sexuality: Bisexual (attracted to more than one gender)
- Neurotype: Autistic (diagnos…

A gender-fluid person stands in a softly lit hallway holding two pride flags, one gender-fluid and one bisexual. They are wearing a green cap and a black dress. Framed art and a potted plant are visible in the background, adding a cozy and calm atmosphere.
A person wearing headphones and an orange hoodie, a peace symbol pendant, and headphones outdoors against a backdrop of a rocky hillside under a partly cloudy sky.

The scene is a selfie-style portrait, with the person positioned in the center of the frame.

The person is looking directly at the camera, with their expression being neutral.
Person in a warm, furry hat and patterned jacket against a bold red and black anarchist background, conveying a cozy yet bold atmosphere.
A woman stands in her apartment.

She is holding a LGBTQ+ flag and a genderfluid flag.

In the foreground, the woman stands in a hallway with an indoor plant visible to the right and a certificate on the wall behind.

Content warning: Spiders and Titanic: The Oddest Pairing You Didn’t See Coming

Warning for anyone scared of spiders or the Titanic wreck!
Spiders used to terrify me so much I couldn’t even sleep. I overcame it by doing what they call exposure therapy, just googling spiders and looking at pictures until it felt less scary. Now, I actually want to own a tarantula as a pet, which is kind of funny.
Something I’m even more scared of is the Titanic wreckage. It’s a oddly specific weird fear, but I think it’s a specific kind of Submechanophobia, where the fear is …

Close-up macro photo of a jumping spider on a bright green leaf. The spider’s body is covered in fine light-brown and grey hairs, giving it a fuzzy look. Its large, iridescent purple and red jaws stand out, facing forward. Two big, bright green eyes add an almost alien appearance. The spider’s thick, hairy legs have dark tips. The background is softly blurred green and blue, focusing attention on the spider’s detailed features. The image shows the spider’s beauty up close without being threaten…
The photograph shows a section of the wrecked RMS Titanic on the ocean floor, focusing on rusted and corroded railings and deck structures. Marine growth like sea anemones, sponges, and small white invertebrates cover the metal, creating a textured surface in rusty orange, brown, and grey-white tones. The railing is twisted and broken, with a dark sea fan-like organism attached.

The scene is dark and somber, surrounded by deep ocean gloom. It evokes a strong sense of decay, time passing, and n…
