a very similar view as in the previous image, only this bud is growing from the right side of the image towards the left

Yesterday I started idly wondering if #clitorises are a human/primate special or if they are more widespread. Turns out they are! Almost all vertebrates have them, except for birds, except except for those bird species where the males have penes. Clitorises have even been found in reptiles like snakes, who have two-parted "hemiclitorises" \o/ But animal clitorises are still quite under…

I'm digging the new(ish) Kabeaushe track but I think this needs better speakers 😅
Also, I would *really* like to see him live this year.

Ah, it's the season when I tape a random page of white paper on my window to filter my neighbors' blinking Christmas decorations out of my peripheral vision, because I can't focus or relax at my desk while they are blinking at me, even from a safe distance.

a closeup of a tangle of green Hippeastrum buds in the process of bursting, catching direct sunlight against a dark background
closeup of white and green Hippeastrum buds in the process of opening, seen in diffuse overcast daylight, with the image focusing on one bud in particular
a similar view as in the precious image, but even more focused on just one bud, and a different one than in the previous image. Emphasizing especially the subtle pattern of its veins

#photography #bloomScrolling #hippeastrum

a horizontal format view looking through the interstices of a white and green Hippeastrum flower in the process of opening. The Hippeastrum buds are fully visible, in focus and catching the sunlight streaming in from the window they are standing in front of. Through the window in a slightly hazy distance there is a dirt parking lot, a meadow and some barren trees visible through the interstices of the buds. the focus is on the play of sunlight on the buds and their slowly unfolding vein pattern…
a similar view as in the previous image, but now zoomed in a bit more and focusing on one bud in particular
similar as before, now zoomed in even more and focusing again on one particular bud, but a different one from the previous image

Since a few weeks I have a Hippeastrum bulb standing on my desk, so I can watch something grow even at this time of the year. Two days ago it finally burst open. Here are some views from before.

closeup of two green Hippeastrum buds, the one in front mostly covering the one behind it; seen at night in artificial light against a dark window
a horizontal format view looking through the interstices of a white and green Hippeastrum flower in the process of opening. The flower itself is out of focus, the focus is instead on barren winter trees and shrubs seen in the distance behind it, in grey overcast winter daylight

cabbages are pretty, and red cabbages are the prettiest!
#photography #bloomScrolling #cabbage

another red cabbage plant, mostly a light purple-grey color, this one a bit denser, but again in bright sunlight with dramatic shadows, and a tiny drop of water in the middle of the lower third of the image catching the light just so that it makes for one single refracted bright red sparkle
a closeup of a red cabbage plant in diffuse blue tinted early morning light. large leaves surround a tiny cabbage head, the whole plant is colored in shades of light blue, purple and hints of green
a closeup of a red cabbage plant in direct morning sun, which partially hits its leaves from the front, making them look more light grey, and partially from behind, making them glow bright green with pinkish veins, while the center remains in shadow and looks mostly blue and purple

moar pretty red cabbages :)
#photography #bloomScrolling #cabbage

a young red cabbage plant seen closeup from above, its leaves in shades of pastel green and grey structured by purple veins. it is hit by sunlight from the left side of the image casting dramatic shadows. a single grass blade of grass crosses the lower left corner of the image

PSA if you live in Europe & have any tendency to feel like shit in winter AND known counter strategies for feeling less like shit ... start employing them NOW.
(I tend to do ok in winter but I am still ramping up my anti-depression tool use, and I am seeing a bunch of friends look like they are entering their winter holes of misery, and am generally a fan of less misery in the world.)

snow outside my window while I am looking at more of last year's flower pictures
#bloomScrolling #begonia #orange

closeup of a variegated orange begonia flower on a short stem, leaves removed, standing in a small dark grey glass vase on a wooden background, seen in warm artificial indoor light making the overall tone of the whole photo very warm and yellowish
a similar view as in the previous picture, but the vase has been turned, and the photo focuses on a different part of the flower
again the vase has been turned, with the main flower taking up more of the picture space now than in the previous images. it is lit brightly on the left side but the right is in shadow.

two fallen begonia flowers
#photography #bloomScrolling #begonia #orange

a horizontal formal closeup of a wilted orange begonia flower that has fallen to a ground of grey structured cement, got wet and ended up pressed flat on this ground. The petals are so translucent at this point that the structure of the ground is visible through them, but there are still some intense traces of color on the flower, especially towards its center

#photography #bloomScrolling #nasturtium #morningGlory

a wilted yellow nasturtium flower with intense red markings seen closeup in diffuse very early morning light, with various kinds of green foliage in the background
a similar flower, maybe even the same, seen in the same light but zoomed out more, and also showing an intensely blue morning glory flower near by. they are both mostly lit from behind further intensifying their colors. the overall effect is one of a rather dark but richly saturated blue-green image, with the yellow nasturtium standing out.
a closeup of just the morning glory from the previous image, seen through the stems of the nasturtium plant, glowing purple-blue among a sea of blueish gray greens

#photography #bloomScrolling #yellow #nasturtium

closeup of a yellow nasturtium flower seen in profile in front of a grey and green background in overcast daylight. the photo focuses on the veins and markings of the flower
similar to the previous image, but zoomed in a little bit more and the vague green and grey shapes of the background - a road and a crossing dirt road plus green foliage - make a different pattern
the same yellow nasturtium flower seen a bit more from the front, in a 3/4 view, also showing its bright green foliage behind, and more of its intense red inside markings than in previous images. there is an intense contrast between its saturated yellow and bright green colors and the shadowy dark green background.
closeup of the same flower from yet another angle, more like 3/4 from behind this time

again the vase has been turned, this time the flower comes more towards the viewer and to the left

#photography #noFilter #bloomScrolling #orange

a landscape-format closeup of a single leafless begonia stem with two orange-yellow flowers on it standing in a small dark grey glass jar, hit by very soft, and not a lot of morning light coming from the left, in front of a dark background
the same begonia stem in the same vase, but turned a bit so as to focus on the bigger of the two flowers, which now takes up most of the picture space. the image is in portrait format and quite dark overall, with the light parts concentrated in the petals of the flower
a view similar to the previous image, but zoomed out a bit and lighter overall, so that the whole of the vase and the begonia stem are visible, and the wooden board they are standing on and white wall behind can be made out

similar view as in the previous image, but the vase has been turned showing a different aspect of the same stem

same begonia as in previous pic, now in early morning light
#photography #bloomScrolling #begonia #orange

closeup of a small stem of orange begonia flowers, without any green leaves, standing in a slender dark grey glass vase in front of a dark background, with seemingly only the flowers hit by soft light coming from the left side, dramatically illuminating the biggest of the three flowers. almost as if it was glowing from the inside.
this one zooms in even closer to the biggest of the three begonia flowers. it is overall quite dark, but some light hits the flower from behind and to the left. the flower takes up almost all of the picture space.
