This DHS funding battle is part of a bigger question Democrats must answer as they fight to regain power.
Large sections of the Democratic base are now echoing calls to “abolish ICE.”
Some Democratic leaders, like New York Senator Chuck Schumer, the minority leader,
are pushing back against this with much more tepid, unwieldy, and frankly pretty weak ideas to “restrain, reform, and restrict” the agency.

ICE is just over 20 years old, formed as part of the sec…

Today in the drizzle I stopped by the Living Library, a beautiful native plant garden near SF's Balboa Park at the San Jose/Seneca intersection. Highly recommend a visit to see some #ceanothus in bloom and California poppies and island mallows beginning to, and much more.

A lush green garden with various shrubs and forbs, a curving stone path to the left, a couple of trees, and there's a two-story school building with sand-colored walls off to the side. There's an information panel that's too distant to make out the text in this photo.
A shrub with large leaves and a few small pink flowers. Seems to be Malva assurgentiflora, or island mallow.
A row of two or three shrubs that look like one shrub at first glance, but there are two distinct types of flowers: one variety is more blue-indigo and larger, the other is smaller and purple. They have dark green leaves and are something in the Ceanothus genus, or mountain lilac.
Information panel titled: "California Native Plants: The ecological benefits of planting Native San Francisco. Life frames a living library."

A bunch of text I can't fit here about the benefits of planting native, restoring nature, one plant at a time. A colorful drawing shows some California native plants and their associated pollinators: California poppy and native bees, milkweed and monarch butterfly, yarrow and hummingbird, buckwheat and native bee, toyon and cedar waxwing.

If you are an anti-fascist, you are against petroleum. Petroleum funds fascism globally. It is at the heart of the military industrial complex driving global imperialism, from both the US and Russia. Motonormitivity is fascist, both in it's elitist roots and in it's ties to historical fascism (Hitler hated bikes, just on principle). Oil is militarism.
Oil is the dominant resource which drives war, both in terms of it being the primary spoil wars are fought over and in terms of fueling the military vehicles and weapons that carry out those wars. Practically every war since (and including) WWII has been over oil. Genocides are carried out to secure oil. Gaza is over oil, in more ways than one.
Oil is the absolute enemy, and AI is simply an extension of that: an attempt to atomize us so we can't resist the oil-centric global order, one last grasp at the control over our lives oil has given to those whose power is now threatened by a solar punk future.
"I haven't written for a few weeks now. As I write the closing chapter and begin rewriting previous sections, everything feels both more distant and more immediate. The working title [Kairos] has only continued to feel more and more resonant, both during the writing and during my pause."
Now is the time to resist by making something different, by creating a world fundamentally opposed to these systems of oppression.
This is the last in my Kairos series. From here on out I'll be editing to try and make it more of a book than a series of posts. Thanks to everyone who has helped so far. All editing is welcome (typos, spell checks, questions and challenges). Between ADHD and dyslexia, it's always hard for my brain to notice mistakes in my own text so I always appreciate the support of those who can.

Recording successful! At least for a first try, I’ll probably read up a bit on recommended recording levels for various cassette types; plus I might use lossless hi-res instead of records as source, might need to for things I don’t have on vinyl anyway
