Why the East Antarctic interior is warming faster and earlier than its coastal areas
Scientists have confirmed that East Antarctica's interior is warming faster than its coastal areas and identified the cause. A 30-year study, published in Nature Communications and led by Nagoya University's Naoyuki Kurita, has traced this warming to increased warm air flow triggered by temperature changes in the Southern Indian Ocean.

On her first dedicated scientific voyage to Antarctica in March, the Australian icebreaker RSV Nuyina found the area sea-ice free. Scientists were able to reach places never sampled before.

Interesting piece in Nature last week about Antarctic research infrastructure. China has just opened it's fifth station, as the US retreats from science in general, and especially polar research. Many countries in Europe are also rather weakly present in the Antarctic, and there is no common EU programme.
In Denmark, we haven't even ratified the Madrid protocols for environmental protection of Antarctica, never mind signed the Antarctic Treaty. In spite of the actually rather strong Danish input to Antarctic research in general - much of which is driven by the fact that our future sea level rise will be largely determined by what happens in the Antarctic.

Not taking any credit for that, but happy to see a chord has been struck for all genuine surveillance-capital-free social media. Even more important in the time of #NoKings.
Looks like I'm going to be busy making #Science videos on #ClimateChange in the #Polar Regions too for the next few weeks.
