Sometimes when I'm taking a long train ride, I'm actually consisting listening to music. I probably won't do that anyway, because I'm already carrying too much stuff and headphones would be a bother, but if I did, I should…

Hello #AskFedi, I have an old HTC phone that I want to give to my mum and I would like to install a Google-free Android on it. However, it doesn't seem to be a device that is supported by i.e. /e/OS or Sailfish. Does that mean I best forget it or are there other ways to fit this particular phone with a Google-free OS?

Habt ihr eine Empfehlung für Domain (.eu) und Email (inkl. Webmailer)?
Aktuell mache ich das über Webhosting bei #ionos, aber auch mit Altvertrag ist das mittlerweile recht teuer.

1. isn't run by assholes
2. doesn't engage with "ai" (and, if possible, actively opposes it)
...the cheaper the better! please boost!

Is there an option hidden somewhere in git log / ref-log / mailmap which would support colorizing output lines differently depending on whether a author/committer matches some pattern (eg Mine vs Another Maintainer vs Unknown Contributor)?
I know I could post-process the output of git log or use other plumbing tools, but I'd rather not if something is built-in.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a nice "experience" somewhere around the Brenner/Bayern or southern BaWU/Lake Constance?
I'm driving through there with the kids and we're gonna need to stop for the night, and I'd like to do something like fossil/rock hounding, or visiting a nice place or anything that won't cause the 9yos to say "this is boring" and go back to listening to audiobooks.

Whilst retagging 600 books in my library application, I noticed basically all recent Science Fiction I read is in some way dystopian. Does anyone have recommendations for not-dystopian science fiction?

What are we using to package up Python application & dependencies into a single distributable file now?
I'm thinking of bundlers like RollupJS.
PEX? Zipapp? Docker image? Trying really dang hard to only use stdlib and shipping a boring wheel?

For example: I find scissors in general have gotten a lot better. ✂️

Did "vibe coding" used to mean something else, before the prevalence of stochastic bullshit machine emitting code-shaped text vomit? I have a vague memory of it involving /fun/ before 2024.

Chat, can you recommend to me thoughtful, well-researched books about #GamerGate ? Maybe published a little after it happened so that the author has a chance to summarise and reflect?
Note - my sympathies are with the women & other victims, I do not need to need to read about how the perpetrators still believe their behaviour was justified. I can simply open Steam comments for that POV, tyvm!
Boosts welcome #AskFedi

Mastodon clients for android to replace tusky, that seems to have stalled completely. What do you recommend? Needs to be able to handle multiple accounts, and if it can deal with friendica as well, all the better.

My SatNav's mount disk broke and I want to get one of these holders where I can potentially secure both the old SatNav and my phone. But I have absolutely zero clue about which ones of these holders are any good. I know the suction mounts tend to fall off because that's what the SatNav has. Are air vent mounts any good? Magnetic mounts on the dashboard? Anyone got advice for me?

Here's a question #AskFedi may be able to make some suggestions for. I'm looking for an open source security privacy conscious nutrient tracker - for sporty vegan family member in middle of training for competitive sports. So shouldn't just be calories but also macro (and maybe micro?) nutrition.
There's a tonne on F-droid but hard to know which to choose. Any recommendations welcome

We can hear them, but not see them
Guesses:
- tree cricket
- pacific chorus frog
- pretty sure it's not a cicada?
Whoever it is, they're quite happy in our trees. Would love to know more

So with all those Wildberries warehouses being taken out by a single dronestrike, and then completely burning down, one has to ask. How is firesafety arranged in large warehouses? Is there compartimentalisation? How is this done in other large warehouses outside of Russia?
