An article on the Fall of Scientific American.
Scientific publishers should be independent. But:
"Springer Nature felt that Scientific American’s criticism of Trump was threatening their broader business—selling subscriptions to their scientific journals. The federal government was a major client."
Scientific American will be for many Semantic Web researchers a special place because of that one article by Tim Berners-Lee, Jim Hendler and Ora Lassila. Thus it's…
When I started at UCL, in. 1964, two of it's most eminent profs were refugees, Bernard Katz and Heinz Otto Schild. Schild, who gave me my 1st job, had been interned in the Isle of Man. He was a kind and gentle man

The late great biophysicist, Sir Bernard Katz, who came to UCL from Leipzig in 1936, was perceptive. When I said to him, in 1991, that he must be pleased about reunification of Germany, he said "wait to see what crawls out from under stones". Yesterday it happened.

I pruned my cinnamon tree last week, just a couple of low branches that were blocking a gate. The leaves smelled so lovely I brought them inside in a bowl near the door and just crushed them a little each time I walked past. House gloriously cinnamon scented, just subtle but lovely. Leaves started drying out this week so I put the bowl with some water on the stove, and warm it up with the remainder heat each time I turn a burner on the stove off. Another week of cinnamon smiles.
