I get access to a bunch of Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) through my #publishing job, but this is the first time I tried to publicly rate one 😅

I’ve almost finished a short history of Italy, and it really brings home just how impressive the EU is after a thousand years of more or less constant war in Europe.
I’m now also keen to join/start a European book club to learn about our fellow European neighbours and read some good books I’d otherwise never get round to. Anyone fancy joining me in or around Copenhagen?

This time even the german an english title are the same.

And basically, that is exactly what you'll get in this #book
It's not the first book on James Cook I read, but Hampton Sides is a very attractive narrator, and he did his homework very well.

@pre@boing.worldRead "How To Survive In A Science Fiction Universe" by Charles Yu, a novel about a time-machine repair-man getting stuck in a loop during his search for his father.
First person narrated, in a fictional universe in which you can travel in time but you can't change anything about the past.
It was fun and an easy read, lots of interludes about the physics of fictional universes and explanations of acausal items causing their own existence, including the book itself that you read in your hands.
Its nice if you'd like something with experimental narrative form twisting the usual story format.

Why is it that an author can refer to a trademarked product in a book at their whim, but when that book gets adapted into a film or television show the product cannot be included without approval of the trademark owner?

@theDuesentrieb@social.linux.pizzaWhile it is fun having the progress shown as 3500 / 13488 with The Complete Wheel of Time ebook, I wanted to enjoy the individual covers as well.
Luckily Calibre with the epub-split plugin made that rather painless, just some metadata adjustments.
Also kudos to TOR publishing for intentionally providing a DRM-free epub, making this possible (without having to remove it beforehand)

Darum hab ich jetzt den Schritt getan und den Vorteil von ebooks genutzt, der auch so ein gigantisches Werk in eine handliche Größe bringt (zumindest gewichtsmäßig)
Das schwierigste dabei war eine wirklich DRM-freie Version vom TOR zu bekommen:
