It’s always “AI is great for generating boilerplate code” and never “why do we even need boilerplate code, maybe programming is broken”
Book Review “The End” by Joel Wainwright
This book is unlike the majority of books I have reviewed here. It is a very serious, academic treatise. The reason I wanted to read it was not because I am a communist (I'm not) but because the blurb I got suggests that it "confronts the planetary climate crisis". I did my due diligence and flogged my way through the entire book - which was a bit like going back to university.
1. Have a simple job to do. Figure out #Makefile will do the job.
2. Think a bit about portability. Makefile becomes slightly more complex.
3. You're finally done. It turns out that some stupid implicit rule in GNU Make fires and adds a `rm` at the end that removes part of the output.
4. Use #Meson.
Just an average #Gentoo day.
[UPDATE: Now I regret using Meson. If you do anything that's not 100% boilerplate, it just keeps throwing obstacles in your way.]

If a statistical token chain generation machine can do a job satisfactorily, that's not a sign that the machine is amazing and intelligent.
It's a sign that that job is bullshit and doesn't achieve anything at all.
For example, generating boilerplate code in programming is a sign of overly verbose frameworks that should be simplified.
