An die Med-Can Bubble:
Ich verstehe nicht wie diese Konzentrate funktionieren. Baller ich mir da mit einem Tropfen 50 mg THC rein? Ist so Anfangsdosis bei oraler Aufnahme nicht eher 5mg? Ich kann doch aber einen Tropfen nicht durch 10 teilen? Hä???

Oh look! Carney is doing that thing absolutely NO ONE voted for him to do!! Selling out our public infrastructure to the highest bidder so we can all pay more for flights that are already expensive and for which we have no land based alternative! Weeeeeeeeeee #elbowssomething

I have a question about oil pipelines in Canada.
What happens in the event the Transmountain pipeline is overrun by a Rank 4 or 5 wildfire?
I know these pipelines carry different product at different times. I know they can be shut. But what would happen if it was a section transporting NGL-diluted bitumen?

The most depressing news of the week, and this decade so far, is the UN's report that leaves no doubt that we will fail to hold global warming below 1.5ºC. But there is also hope, read on.
The world agreed in 2015 on 1.5ºC, championed, I might add, by a certain Canadian Prime Minister. Now, the best we could hold it to would be 1.8ºC and that would be at breakneck speed.
That Prime Minister is now hanging out with his kids, his girlfriend, and is generally getting on just fine...while his party oversees what they intend to be the greatest expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure and emissions (LNG and TMX2) in Canadian history.
Meanwhile the rest of us are left breathing in the smoke and fleeing the fires.
As a young adult 25 years ago, I thought we had time. I was optimistic. I thought surely we'd make the correction once the every-day consequences started to hit.
Well here we are, fully in the *beginning* of those consequences, and our governments have never been more committed to being the last one to sell the last drop of oil, coal, or gas.
No one disputes anymore that we have and are changing the climate.
The deniers lost.
But the oil companies are still winning.
The only way to save ourselves at this time and to have any hope of 1.8ºC or 2ºC or whatever the lowest possible temperature is that we can achieve, is to take the fight to the oil companies directly.
Physically.
Economically.
Until they cannot operate, pollute or continue as going concerns.
We are all of us feeling the impacts of climate change and what oil companies have done. That means today we have many many more people ready to fight than we ever have before.
We have to fight because they are already killing us, and because the rest of us must survive.
We will fight because if we don't, both they, and we, will die on a planet rendered unliveable by our own stupidity and greed.
So we fight. In every way you can. You fight.

so I mean, everyone wishes that a host nation of a World Cup wins the World Cup, right?
But barring that I think the situation we have now is perfect.
Canada fought hard, left some blood on the field like a good hockey player, and did better than they've ever done before by a wide margin.
Mexico played one of the best games possibly in the history of football, in without question the best stadium in all of football and can go home proud even as much as it hurt.
And the USA was an absolute disgrace not really because of their players, but because of their President and FIFA.
Really I'd say it worked out extremely well.
Now GO SPAIN. 😆

This is how far behind and how much of a disadvantage Canadians are at right now domestically.
Walk into Canadian Tire and you can by a 500W "kit” of 4 125W solar panels from $1199. That works out to $2.40 per Watt.
Or, you can go on Alibaba as I just did... search for 400W solar, chat with a (AI Bot probably?) and be offered 36 620 watt "JinkoSolar" panels for $US 2500 plus $3000 shipping which works out to $8,510.88 CAD or $0.38 per Watt.
Our governments and business communities are completely failing us. We are getting fleeced.
Granted I don't know if there would be import duties, but FGS the price difference is totally ridiculous.

The German state election yesterday is a perfect demonstration of why Proportional Representation (PR) is far superior for democracy than First Past the Post (FPTP).
TLDR: Thanks to Proportionality, the AfD only won a minority, not majority parliament because the state parliament always reflects the popular vote.
The picture shows the state of Saxony-Anhalt divided into its electoral districts. It is almost all blue because the AfD won the most votes in all but three districts but with 42% of the popular vote overall.
Had this been a province in Canada, it would have produced a legislature with just 3 opposition members, and all the rest government members. Delivering absolute majority power with no meaningful voice for any other party (likely also losing official party status and key funding for political activities) despite a significant share of the popular vote. This has happened in Canada many times, including in BC in 2001 when the NDP won just 2 seats with all 77 others going to the B.C. Liberals… it led to a referendum on PR that won over 60% of the vote but was never implemented.
Had this German state used FPTP they would have a gigantic majority of exclusively far right members and just 3 opposition.
Thanks to PR, their legislature will actually reflect the vote of the people.
42% AfD (39 seats)
17% CDU (15)
9% SPD (8)
8% GRN (8)
8% LNK (8)
5% BSW (5)
83 seats: 42 needed for majority.
AfD: 39
Other parties: 44
In B.C., one of the tropes the status quo campaigners constantly bring up is that PR somehow enables extreme parties more than FPTP and is thus dangerous. This has been proven false over and over including right now,
Here we are, with another example as this German state breathes a sigh of relief that PR saved them from a whollly undemocratic and extreme outcome.
Meanwhile, back in B.C., our own now far right BC Conservatives have successfully splintered the “big tent” remnants of the old slightly more centrist B.C. Liberals leading to a mish mash of independents and new parties in the B.C. Legislature that have not been elected by the people and are unable to really function as a proper opposition to the majority government. FPTP doing a great job! *sarc
Why doesn’t Canada have *any* proportional elections?
Inertia, greed, and power.

I am glad that the Qatar player, Assim Madibo, who broke Koné’s leg, sought out Kone immediately in the dressing room to apologize before Kone was taken to hospital.
He seemed genuinely distraught and upset after the tackle.
Some of the people on the Qatar bench need a good slap for their reactions... but on the whole, Madibo reacted in the right way, and that goes a long way to making what happened truly a tragic accident that can happen at any time in professional sports.
I wish Madibo well, and I hope Koné's recovery can be as quick, and complete as possible over the next few months.
And of course, I hope this gives Canada at least some added motivation and drive to get to the knockout stage and really make some noise in this thing!

The Trade Rep for Canada, Minister LeBlanc just said he's not going to be concerned about what an official says... “on a US Social network”.
Interesting choice of words. Is there a mind shift happening?
Now might be the time to strike and remind your local, provincial and federal politicians that there are *CANADIAN* social networks *today*.
There are spaces they can join, and even that they can create.
It's time to ramp up the Canadian #Fediverse and #OpenSocialWeb!

This is cool.
But a new train sitting on the siding for 4 hours to wait for a freight train when the entire journey is supposed to take 4 hours is the actual problem no one in government wants to solve.
VIA Rail remains a national embarrassment because of successive Liberal and Conservative policy. Now they’ll just be a national embarrassment with new rolling stock.
Oh and people can barely afford to take it across the country. It is mostly an embarrassing tourist fraud with spectacular views.
Ask me how I really feel. 😆 🚂

“Carney pointed to a map of North America, half of which had been accurately but artistically burned away.
“It is our intention for the pipeline to cross over Saskatchewan and British Columbia, but if they prove too charred already then I plan to divert the pipeline and profits through the Northern states, as part of my next round of capitulations to Trump in CUSMA negotiations.”
Danielle Smith, smiling so wide that many in the audience naturally assumed she was thinking about forcing trans children to dig the pipeline infrastructure themselves, stated that she fully supported the project being moved up before her province was so full of smoke it couldn’t exist anymore.
“This is a great day for Albertans, and none of the rest of you traitorous fucks,” Smith stated, flipping off any reporter who looked like they were from east of her province. “The sooner this gets done, the sooner I can start looking for new ways to hurt endangered wildlife and complain about how no one ever gives Alberta anything.”

We in BC and in Canada have this on our conscience as the world burns. Carney and Eby plan on doubling this facility and adding others.
Our governments, and by extension we, are not only complicit, but directly responsible for allowing this.
We the people are the only ones who can make it stop.

The BBC is breaking a 20 year habit of mine... so I apologize that I am posting about this everytime it happens, but this is kind of a big deal in my world. BBC was my source for world news. I have never, ever, been prevented from reading a print news article on its website until this month.
Now.. they want me to subscribe.
In my opinion, the decline and death of true public broadcasting in the (english speaking) world — I've seen it in the UK, the USA, and Canada, I can't speak to other countries — is contributing to the decline of democracy in those places.
If only those who can afford to read the news have access to the news, then less people will be able to be informed, regardless of any editorial leanings.

Statement from @… leader of the #NDP on trade talks.
"The Prime Minister was right to walk away from the negotiating table last night. I believe Canadians are united in this crucial moment, on this crucial point: no deal is better than a bad deal.
Accepting a deal that would lock in pointless, destructive tariffs and undermine our ability to regulate big tech would have been disastrous for our workers, industries and sovereignty. PM Carney read the room by rejecting the Americans’ offer.
Wab Kinew got it exactly right — the President is weak and cannot be trusted to abide by an agreement. We should stand firm, knowing it’s what the vast majority of Canadians want our government to do.
But what happens next matters. We are not out of this yet.
You can count on New Democrats to be a voice for swift and substantial aid to affected workers and industries. This is also a moment to rapidly transition to an economy that is more independent, that prioritizes housing, health, climate and the cost of living.
What brings us together and makes us strong is how we take care of each other in hard times. That’s the Canada the NDP will fight for in this crisis moment and those to come."

It’s official. The attack on our cultural reach, including in French, and trying to limit our international trading partnerships, was a direct attack on Canada 🇨🇦 as a sovereign country.
We will not be the 51st state. Never.
Not even Alberta.
The USA is a hostile country.
Americans: this is on you. All of you. Fix it. Canada will make your life exactly as difficult as ours is, because of your President. Our leaders are now seriously talking about taxing or limiting energy exports to your country as we pivot to the welcoming embrace of the rest of the world.
Only you can fix this.

The summer is heating up! #Edmonton and #Montreal are flooded by historic rains, Lytton BC is under threat again by wildfire, and Vancouver Island is in a historic drought.
Does Environment Canada have the ability to warn us and track the changes in our climate? The government is cutting ECCC services and capabilities at a time that we need it more than ever.
Here's our petition to tell them to restore Environment Canada!
#e7465! We're hoping for many more before the summer ends so Government can't ignore this issue.
Here’s what we, citizens and residents of Canada, are asking from the #Carney Government:
1. Reverse cuts to Environment and Climate Change Canada that impact weather forecasting, meteorological research and climate science;
2. Restore and maintain Weatheradio and other accessible public alert systems;
3. Protect and expand weather observation and climate monitoring stations across Canada;
4. Ensure adequate staffing and long-term funding for ECCC programs, scientists, meteorologists and technical experts; and
5. Recognize weather forecasting and climate monitoring as essential public safety infrastructure.
The petition ends August 26th in time for the new session in the fall. We have the summer to get it done!
