I do have to question whether all people's of the Nisga’a Nation are fully aware of and/or still supportive of being in co-ownership with a fascist Republican owned gas pipeline in NWBC.
“In 2024, the project was sold to the Nisga’a Nation in northwestern B.C. and the Texas-based Western LNG. Among the biggest of the project’s investors is Blackstone Inc., led by CEO and chairman Steve Schwarzman, a friend and advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, and one of the Republican Party’s top 10 donors.”

lets do this!
"For instance, the technology’s fast charging, high output and robust endurance suggest a good fit for storing excess electricity generated at solar farms during the daytime, to power the grid at night. It may also be useful for backup power at data centers.
“Because this technology could extend the lifetime of batteries to decades upon decades, it might be ideal for storing renewable energy or quickly taking over when power is lost,” El-Kady said. “This would remove worries about the changing cost of infrastructure.”

Alternate Headline: “Trans Mountain doubles exports in 2025 resulting in 82 million tonnes of CO2 to atmosphere.”
The news dutifully omits the CO2 impact so here's the math:
There is 2.79 tonnes of CO2 in 1 tonne of average crude oil.
2025 exports: 24.4 million tonnes
= 68 million tonnes of CO2
Oh, but that's not all!
Alberta oil emits about 85kg of CO2 for every barrel of oil produced.
24.4 million tonnes of crude is 176 million barrels
Another 14 million tonnes of CO2!
Yay Canada!

TIL: DeHavilland Dash 8 aircraft have a much larger range than I thought. Just noticed an Air Canada Jazz flight from Vancouver to Winnipeg (JZA7110). That's about 1900km.
I look because turbo-props like the DH8 (aka Q400) are more fuel efficient and have lower CO2 emissions than jets. They also fly lower, generally around 20 - 25,000ft, so lessen the stratospheric pollution vs. 30-40,000ft.

oh fun!
To provide “unlimited" range on their BEV buses they’ve created 'charge points' that can be strategically installed on a route. All of the BEV buses come equipped with a pantograph style connector on the roof that can raise up and attach to the charger.
It is 450kW and delivers 1.5-2hrs operating time in 6mins.

It's wild how far behind North American, European, Japanese and Korean automakers are in the EV space. I submit it is *primarily* because fossil fuel interests are holding them back.
The new tech in China is stunning.
"The EVs were plugged in at 9% state of charge with 93 kilometers of range (57 miles). In 9 minutes and 51 seconds, they charged up to 97% with the range prediction in their gauge cluster displaying 1,008 kilometers (626 miles).
"The Commies” also seem to do capitalism better than "us”:
"The world’s largest EV maker saw its steepest sales plunge since the pandemic, with February sales falling 41% amid cut-throat competition in China's EV market. BYD is now hoping for a comeback by democratizing its cutting-edge new technology.”

and to think there are still people all-in on trying to convince us that somehow big hydro, big nuclear and fanciful “SMR”nuclear will deliver the same kind of cheap, clean, reliable power.
It's not.
Just get on with building solar and wind and tidal and batteries banks and all the rest!
Australia is now far ahead of Canada. Why…?
"Australia’s long, complicated and difficult energy transition is finally working. As our recent research suggests, if these trends continue – and nothing new goes wrong – we should begin to see lower retail electricity bills by mid-2026. As more coal plants close and new transmission and storage infrastructure is delivered, electricity prices could rise again. But overall, shifting demand from gas and coal for power and petrol for cars is likely to deliver significantly lower energy bills for households.”

of course... it's actually much worse than just policy dredged up from the days of Paul Martin and Stephen Harper… it's a gigantic step backward at the behest of fossil fuel interests in order to keep people burning fossil fuels.
EV mandates should be 'sold’ as an affordability measure! Because they are!
No, I don't mean grants, I mean everyday use. Real impacts on your pocket book. How much money would you save if you *never* went to a gas station. Just think about that for second.
Then we can do the math.
My 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric just passed 251152km (palindrome!) yesterday and gets around 6km/kWh on average.
I pay about $0.13/kWh at home to charge so that's $0.02/km. That is $5,023.04 in total energy expenses so far.
Our 2012 Toyota Prius C is at 270,000km and gets about 5.5L/100km or 0.055L/km. At (a discounted) $1.25/L that’s $0.04/km or $10,800 in total energy expenses so far.
Per kilometre the EV is half the cost to 'fuel' than one of the most fuel efficient gas cars out there.
In general, why would *anyone* choose something that costs double to run!?
And yet, the government doesn't sell this as ‘affordability’ it sells it as 'environmental responsibility'.
Let's be honest, they do that because they *know* the environmental message is *less* motivating than money.
Now I said at the beginning, "imagine" never going to the gas station. Obviously that doesn't mean you're fueling for free... but there is another overlooked aspect to this.
Fueling your car is a day to day thing. It's one of the biggest pulls on people's bank accounts precisely because it is such a frequent cost.
Now imagine if that 'bill' was just rolled into your home electricity bill. Which you could do other things to reduce cost overall?
EVs are not just an environmental game changer, they are a financial one for the average person.
That is why oil companies are throwing absolutely everything they have at government (and also fomenting fascism) to keep their good times going, at our expense.

Coastal First Nations group (comprising multiple First Nations on the North Coast of BC) tell the Prime Minister to shove it...
“We also made our positions very clear and reiterated those positions around our stance regarding the oil pipeline, and that has not changed.”
OK, not exactly that undiplomatic, but I'm sure the feeling is the same in Alberta. Thank you to these First Nations for having the decency and good sense to stick to their guns.
There will be no more pipelines. None. Ever, in BC. That is the way it must be.
