These caramels are so good. Especially the salted licorice ones (black). Why didn’t I learn about these until my 35th trip, Iceland???

A clear plastic bag of wrapped caramels sits on a white marble surface. The bag is orange with white and red text, and the caramels are wrapped in various colored papers. The brand is Karamellur and made by Góa.

I've posted pictures of 𝐷𝑜𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝐴𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑢𝑚 in other seasons but I took this one on a freezing cold day with blowing, not falling, snow

I had dough in the freezer from last weekend and made a small batch of cookies. Chocolate with dark chocolate chips & salted caramel chips with a sprinkle of salt on top. I love these!

I will be quite happy when the Big Sur highway is finally re-opened to end-to-end travel.
(It can be a scary trip, especially southbound, with tall cliffs going up on the inland side and sheer drops into the ocean on the other side.)
It has been said that the Big Sur area has the worst (as in none) cell phone signal in the entire US.
A drive on California highway 1 from Cambria on the south to and through the Mendocino coast on the north is something that is fairly special …

I'm wrapping my head around how to capture rebounds in basketball -- this is last Saturday's game of the Big Red women against the Columbia Lions which the Lions won 80-55 in fan-friendly Newman Arena -- next time I am heading back with my Zeiss 55mm/1.8 because I see people shooting basketball successfully with pretty wide lenses

A chaotic scene as three women converge on a basketball. Left-to-right: Number 23 in a blue lions jersey, a black woman wearing Cornell white with red trim and dreadlocks has the ball while a lion behind her reaches for the ball and a while cornellian with fine twisty braids and a knee braces converges from behind

I made an experimental flan, where instead of using sugar in the custard mix, I converted that sugar to caramel (in addition to the caramel coating the bowl) and then dissolved that caramel into the cooling scalded milk.
The experiment was a success, if you like caramel.
I did this one from memory. 1.5c sucrose split into two parts, 4 cups milk, 4 large eggs, 1 yolk, 1/4 t salt, 1 T vanilla, 350-375F, 1 hour in a baño maria, lay a sheet of aluminum foil on it for most of that ti…

A pyrex bowl containing a mostly-eaten flan, with some caramel syrup still in the bottom, and the flan itself somewhat caramel-colored. A sticky spoon rests in the bowl.
