Reading @…'s book got me back in the lab doing experiments to measure the speed a signal travels through a 100-ft coaxial cable.
In this low-quality setup with a 47-ohm resistor on a breadboard, I got 203.2 x 10^6 m/s, or about 68% of the speed of light.
In a better setup using a proper 50-ohm BNC impedance adapter, I got 229.2 x 10^6 m/s, or ab…

An electronics bench with a coil of coaxial cable and a small breadboard with a 47-ohm resistor. Test leads go to an oscilloscope displaying a pair of square(ish) waves.
Screenshot of a an oscilloscope with yellow and blue traces. Both traces are slightly distorted square waves, with the blue trace shifted to the right. Vertical cursors indicate that the blue trace is 150 ns behind the yellow.

Thanks, #IntelliJ

Screenshot of a multi-line section in IntelliJ's text editor, filled entirely with commas. In the middle, there's a blue cursor, and above it sits a popup that just reads: “This view is”.

Long shot but can anyone tell me which one of these Philips OneBlade QI 1864 charger socket pins is 5V and which is GND? Before I just YOLO it and potentially fry it? 😅 I lost the USB to proprietary cable, multimetering the socket didn't help and this info is apparently nowhere to be found. 😑
UPDATE: Might figure it out from this:

Philipps OneBlade QI 1864 shaver 5V 1A charger socket, two pins in a slot hole with two indents at the bottom and at the top.

Why isn't there a Deutsche Bahn branded USB charger? Type F plug so it doesn't lose contact all the time; with all the electronics in the plug.
Edit: Already exists. Not DB branded, but from Brennstuhl. brennenstuhl.com/de-DE/steckdo

I do like that #SolveSpace can load images (though only pngs...) for reference to design your model around. But I really wish it was a *little* easier to auto-scale it to its real dimensions 😅

Solvespace screenshot, showing a loaded photo of a Philips OneBlade shaver's charger socket with a caliper placed on top for reference. Five contruction lines are constrained with four angles, just so one dimension (60mm on the caliper) can be calibrated to have proper dimensions in SolveSpace.

To those who complain about Deutsche Bahn*,
wait till you try the Deutsche Autobahn..
We decided to try a new transport mode to cross Germany this week, having left ticket booking too late to be reasonably priced and given recent disruptions on the line.
Our rental EV, a VW ID.4 was perfect, long range, lots of space, good acceleration and a very large network of super fast chargers everywhere.
But I wonder if there is more than a 50km stretch of autobahn between Denmark and the Belgian border that is not currently undergoing some kind of work?
Back to letting the train take the strain next time.

*I admit I am occasionally one of those too.

Watched the Stranger Things theater-play prequel in The Phoenix.
Amazing staging. The lights and projections and choreography and sets were dumbfounding. Whole stage of two dozen people rotating around and pacing about on the rotating stages near made me dizzy.
And that was the best thing about it. Yes.
Had the same mood as the show. Mostly that's music I guess.
I barely remember the Netflix show, only watched two seasons before losing interest. Guess this was all leading up to 11 being born.
Some of our party left early coz the story was so uninspiring but I barely noticed that, being entranced by the spectacle.
