I literally booted Debian for the first time in weeks, to only have two updates waiting, Brave and Signal Desktop.

I'm using #Debian13 with #GNOME 48 since August (coming from #xfce).
I summarized my GNOME setup on

so
very
frustrating
#Gnome #Evolution how is this even possible? Fresh #Debian13 install, launched, added my google workspace, read and answered email, browsed calendar, really nice, but the VERY NEXT MORNING suddenly tossed into OAuth2-is-missing, step through the 'wizard' and it always ends with the same heartache, are you trying sign in? and then…
Mail authentication (shown) gives a URL to a page, Make sure you trust Gnome (4 perms already granted, Google console agrees) but in Firefox that URL asks to confirm and then reverts to google.com. In the minibrowser, it gets to "Requesting access token, please wait"
And wait you do.
How is this even POSSIBLE? What could cause it to (a) drop an OAuth2 overnight that had been in use for a day and (b) subsequently give a URL that does not result in an access token. I removed permissions on the Google side, but same results. Reinstalled Evolution, no change
yes, I checked gitlab.gnome.org

OK, now I *really* need to upgrade my #Debian12 #X11 #xfce desktop to #Debian13

Created a fresh account, logged in, immediately launched #Evolution and entered the Google account, and I get the exact same behaviour?!
Is it possible Google changed the rules midnight Nov 29th? Or is the #FUBAR thing deep deep in the bowels of #debian13?

Is it just me or is kernel 6.12.57 in #debian13 borked?
#virtualbox freezes when starting up a VM. The host system then hanging at poweroff/reboot... and ultimately ended up kernel panicking after hard-reset.
went back to 6.12.48 and all is fine..

Anime-style illustration of two schoolgirls standing close together, blushing and holding each other. One girl with orange pigtails gestures outward while the other, with pink hair and a large white bow, holds a finger to the first girl’s lips. To the right is the Debian swirl logo and stylized text reading: ‘debian — the GNU/Linux distribution for lesbians.’ The overall design mimics a promotional poster combining anime art with Linux-themed humor.

and it was going so well too: spent yesterday enjoying a not-gmail #Evolution access to my workspace, but now, as of this morning, with no changes other than sleep, Evolution is locked out:
“Failed to authenticate: Cannot create an item in a locked collection”.
ok #Debian13 #gnome wtf is a "locked collection" and by who's authority was it created with a lock on my own machine?
More to the point: will my Evolution email always be this fragile? ie is it pointless to even try?
More to the gripe: do software developers EVER post messages using terms that are actually DEFINED somewhere?

so far, so amazingly good. the Dell 5290 has a close keyboard but with a nice haptic response and despite less RAM and similar bogomips to my old ZaReason, everything media has been smooth as glass in #Debian13 - never thought I would say so, but if you are new to pondering Linux for that machine that can't do Win11, for everyday use or science lab stuff unfettered by clouds, I wouldn't go near Ubuntu, you'll be just fine in Debian.

Friday was an adventure in tech futility. Started with a gifted laptop, Dell Latitude, and the simple task of wiping its poor excuse for an OS and installing something sensible.
#Ubuntu wasn't it. OMG Ubuntu, what HAVE you done?! Tried first #UbuntuStudio then stock Ubuntu, 24.04, 25.04, 25.11, all the installers simply hung, no log, no journalctl, CPU chugging but nada detectable action, even hours later, just "Preparing…"
Net advice is old, of course, but points to the snap bootstrap service, fix has no effect but Kee-riced look at the mount table?! Snaps crackle and pop all over! Wtf, why? 🤯
And it is tedious. These 'DVD' iso files are 7GB, so, after 6 hours frustration, I thought, let's try something smaller to cut the turnaround time. #Debian13 simple bare-bones net-install seemed a good candidate …
And it was. Seemless install. 😊

#Debian13 Trixie with #GNOME48: I just had a podcast recording session using StudioLink. I was the guest.
My headphones were plugged into the audio jack of my lenovo x13 2-in-1. My external USB microphone did fine.
However, I've lost my audio signal of my headphones multiple times during th…

The system update screen of #Debian 13 Trixie GNOME is really ugly. 🫩

Screenshot of the text interface shown on reboot while the progress bar of the system update is interleaved with all sorts of messages making it not very easy to follow or even pleasing to the eye.
