Wounds
(Some more entries from an ongoing series of photographs about the effects of climate change and increasing erosion in the Alps, here focused at very localized scales & occurrences to make them more concrete, communicable and less abstract...)
1) Exposed chunks of bedrock underneath the shrinking Langtauferer glacier
2) Heavily eroded forest in the Lechtal Alps
3) A dried out alpine lake in the Dolomites
4) Accumulated rock fall debris near Hahntennj…

B&W close up of a glacier edge around an island of dark exposed bedrock, the melt water forming small waterfalls. The glacier ice is still dozens of meters thick with small ceracs and dark contour lines. The more rock is exposed, the more heat is accumulated in summer and the faster the glacier is shrinking... a vicious circle!
B&W photo of a heavily eroded hill side within a dense forest. The exposed area almost a little reminiscent of Zabriskie Point in Dead Valley.
B&W photo of a dried out mountain lake with a couple of bushes growing in its soft sandy ground. Patches of dwarf mountain pine are covering nearby talus fields. A group of sunlit larches in front of the dark and steep mountain slopes in the background.
B&W photo of a dune-like growing scree field caused by regular rock falls, semi-guided/funneled by man-made infrastructure.

Red River of the North at Fargo-Moorhead, (left) and Grand Forks-East Grand Forks (right). The river delineates the border between #NorthDakota and #Minnesota

Looking southeastward (toward Minnesota on the opposite bank) over the Red River of the North at Fargo, North Dakota. The ice is mostly melted, but some is still floating downstream (northward toward Canada).
Looking southward from the DeMers bridge at Grand Forks, North Dakota / East Grand Forks, Minnesota, onto the mostly frozen Red River of the North. The linear features are snowmobile tracks.

Tectonic Wall
A pretty famous geotope in the Allgäuer Alps with extreme folds and layering. The hundreds of meters thick top layer of mostly Dolomite belongs to the Lech valley thrust sheet (215 million years old) which got pushed above the Allgäu sheet below (190 million years old, here mostly covered by overgrown talus fields) and Radiolarite from the Ruhpolding formation even further below (160 million years old and originally 2000 meter below sea level — hard to imagine!).

Wide-format B&W photo of a long vertical craggy rock face with extreme folds in the rock. Below steep talus fields, partially overgrown with grass and some small patches of dwarf mountain pines.
