Het laatste boek dat ik mijn vader kado gaf, en het laatste dat hij las...Hij vond het vooral 'erg gedetailleerd', en daarin kan ik hem geen ongelijk geven. Maar het schetst wel een fraai beeld van de wetenschap in de 19de eeuw, en van een breedontwikkeld, kleurrijk persoon, die een cruciale rol gespeeld heeft in het totstandkomen van het KNMI.
