PS: I have a crazy idea: perhaps post-secondary should be majority-funded by government, not by exploitative international tuitions that can just *disappear*)
PPS: Domestic enrolment is not declining in any significant kind of way in the sector. From the “State of Post Secondary Education in Canada 2025” by Alex Usher:
"This decline in per-student funding is therefore not primarily a result of a significant decline in total funding; rather, it is a result of expenditures remaining more or less
constant while enrollments increased.”

Bad situation but I don't feel this article does a lot to help!
Yeah it's gonna be difficult to get back to "pre-pandemic levels" when covid is still making kids long-term sick, can we get a mention of that inconvenient fact.
No critique of the social pressure put on chronically-ill kids when attendance targets filter into the classroom.
How about a namecheck for (especially neurodivergent) kids' bad experiences of teach-to-the-test education, and the immense difficulty of getting funding for special needs support.
Not a lot on what the school staff are already doing to support kids or what govt could usefully put on more cash for, like good free breakfasts.
Includes some disrespect to non-school education along the way. (“We can only deliver opportunity for children in our country if they’re in school”, okay maybe it's true that _you_ can only "deliver" via school, because you don't know the alternatives, but shouldn't it actually be part of your job as Ed Sec to know them)
The delegating to so-called "AI" is the least of it!

just registered for my continuing Spanish (200) class next semester.
The enrollment problems at VIU (and all across the sector) have made it difficult to fill these classes. The fall semester class didn't run because there were not enough students enrolled.
I really really hope it gets up to the number needed to run the course!
There always seems to be good uptake of the 100/101 classes but 200 is a struggle.

More big cuts to Universities and Colleges in Canada/BC.
This time it's smaller colleges in the Interior of BC. Coast Mountain College in Prince Rupert/Northwest, and Selkirk College in the SE/Nelson.
The Hazelton campus of CMC is being closed as is the Fine Arts campus of Selkirk.
All because successive Provincial and Federal governments in Canada thought the gravy-train of International students would last forever, allowing them to redirect funding for Post Secondary to other parts of the budget.
I don't think the system has found the bottom yet, and at the end, it will be Domestic students who suffer most from hugely diminished services at their local, and regional, and national colleges and Universities.
