Kudos to all Canadians and tourists from other countries for spending your vacation dollars in Canada. The numbers for our tourism industry are trickling in, and regions are reporting a boom in revenue for the past few months. Canada’s tourism sector generated a record-breaking amount of revenue between May and August, reaching $59 billion, revenue from international travelers was up 10%, and hotel bookings across Canada were the highest since 2014.
Meanwhile, stats on Canadians traveling to the U.S. show the 6th consecutive month of decline with a 34% drop year-over-year in August. The coming winter months will test Canadian Snowbirds resolve to avoid warm destinations in the USA and determine if our travel protest is waning or just getting started.

Brutal, the CFL is essentially going to take everything about the game that is unique to Canada (larger field, goal posts, points) and scrap it so it looks more like the NFL.

Normally, I'm posting about history or geography or trivia, but the July tourism numbers are dominating the news. We "Nasty" Canadians are choosing not to visit the USA, and trips across the border continue to drop month after month. At the end of 2024, U.S. tourism revenue from Canadians was projected to increase 16%. Surprise! Losses by USA businesses are already estimated to be in excess of $20B USD, and some states are bracing for government cuts due to a decrease in sales taxes.

I haven't visited the U.S. since January 2020 (business travel prior to retirement), but my social media commentary, like the example above, means I won't be traveling there anytime soon. I'm likely to be "disappeared" once they get access to my phone.
Thankfully, I'm not remotely interested in going there.

glad I started early today.
Went to the hardware shop at open 7:30AM only to find they were out of elbows.
went to Can Tire at open at 8. Same story.
Had to drive 30min to clean out the Home Hardware stores in Qualicum Beach and Parksville of all 8 elbows they had between the two of them.
Got back in time to do some rough fitting, but it is already 27° and hotter in the hole. So I am done for the day!
Managed to rough together the bottom intake pipe as well.

Good Morning #Canada
On August 7, 1927, the Peace Bridge, an international bridge spanning the Niagara River between Buffalo, New York, and Fort Erie, Ontario, was dedicated. This event commemorated over a century of peace between the United States and Canada. I'm guessing there won't be a ceremony for 200 years of peace since we're now the "nasty Canadians."
