I watched a documentary from PBS about the history of funk last night (We Want the Funk!). It's worth the 1.5 hours if you're interested. Still, it didn't include any music by - or even mention - Curtis Mayfield. Even if he's maybe better understood as a soul/R&B artist, it seems to me funk wouldn't have been the same without him. So naturally, I've dusted off some old albums and have been listening to him all day.
