That reminds me that Holly Johnson, who is the feature of the main article in this month's Classic Pop magazine, stated in the mag that after he was diagnosed with HIV in 1991 almost all his music world supposed friends suddenly disappeared.
The two he calls out who stuck by him and gave him the love & support he needed were Janice Long and Kirsty MacColl. As if you didn't need any more reasons to love those two wonderful women.

Another in my occasional "well how on earth did I not previously know that" posts about 80s pop music:
TIL that not only did Trevor Horn write "Slave to the Rhythm" but he did so fully intending it to be recorded by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. It was only after the boys decided that it wasn't for them that he offered it to Grace Jones.
As it happens I can imagine what a FGTH version of that song might be like, and I feel it would be very very different from the version (still produced by Horn) that Grace Jones finally released.
