"Phrack article from 2002" o.O
lots of work to do in #FreeBSD 🧐

Updated the codeberg.org/thesaigoneer/freebsd-mangowc repo. Still a lot to do, but at least the most relevant things are there, including the mango configs itself 😆 Also the sw selection has been amended, including yazi and foot now.

That updating went totally transparant and without a hitch, from beta5:

Already going to RC2. And still running KDE Plasma 6.5.2 Wayland. Kudos!

Cinnamon and MATE should be fine. System sounds are audible on FreeBSD 15.0-RC4.
VirtualBox host: Kubuntu.

We have sound! RTFM, ye olde geezer 😆 The FreeBSD handbook delivered (again..). On with configuring Mangowc (and some River) today 🥭🪟

Love it when a plan comes together.
KDE Plasma 6.5.2 Wayland on FreeBSD 15 beta 5. My how-to will be updated tomorrow (some minor tweaks), but this is running solid on that laptop.
Thanks to @… for useful additions!

No need to be left behind.
The adjusted how-to is up and running at https://codeberg.org/thesaigoneer/freebsd-kde-wayland.
So, go and get your latest KDE Plasma 6.5.2.Wayland on FreeBSD!
My 'complaining' about KDE has led to an extra effort by the FreeBSD community to pull me in 🤣 Ungoogled Chromium is back in ports with the latest version 👍🏻

What I want, now, is a pkg command to list unregistered packages.
Oops, too late 🙃

The easy way out is riverwm on FreeBSD, dots and set-up already available on my Codeberg.
The more challenging way is qtile or sway on FreeBSD 15.
Let's get out of that slump!

When you get that opacity and Gruvbox theme working in Wezterm (wezterm.lua).
Pushing my luck here, but it looks to turn out as a great day.

It is telling that my second blog post today is a rewrite of my FreeBSD 15 install how-to. Once I go to the paid tier I'll start reshuffling and tagging. And since it's all not that important I've called mine The Infinite Nothing.

I got most ARM64 machines working in QEMU. One exception:

I decided Xfce wasn't exciting enough for me. It didn't end well 😆 When you spend the last two hours setting up Niri on FreeBSD 15 only to find out in the end there's a bug open (originated on the FBSD side, since 25.11; it used to work on 14) 😭
At least I've got all deps and packages ready to go :mortyheh: Moving on, river it'll be!

Funny to see that Vietnam's timezones are still split in North and South Vietnam in the FreeBSD installer. Saw it before obviously, but now I will apply for an installer change. It's probably a leftover from the BSD days, when there were clearly two different countries, but it has been one Vietnam since 1975.

@… some of what's written about pkgbase is unnecessarily alarmist.
In a nutshell: you can use it for RELEASE, STABLE, and CURRENT. No need to build from source for updates.

@… why a time bomb?
I did followed the link, but I don't see an explanation (sorry).

@… sadly, the macOS card is overplayed 😞
Also, certain to generate bickering:
"You can have real Unix on your machine with these open-source OSes."
😉

A few nit-picks from me in Reddit, but I really like the article.
I mean, I _really_ like it. I fully expected you to be harsher (now) about some of the things that you picked up in the past.
