I was wondering why none of my #FreeBSD systems got the latest #nginx - so I searched... and it took me a good hour again to figure out that the OS is by default insecure; you need to actively change the repo settings in order to get recent software with bug fixes - latest instead of quarterly:

With all the love that OpenBSD is getting now (and rightly so!), and my good ol' Slackware KDE back on the main NUC, I feel the time is right to finally spent serious time in FreeBSD. Let's install it on the hybrid graphics laptop and use it as my daily work driver for the next month at least? I'll report about the trials and tribulations over here.

Is there any specific explanation why KDE Wayland on FreeBSD uses so much RAM? 2.3 to 2.5 gb? For me personally it doesn't matter, all these discussions are beyond me, it's not 1972 anymore. But it is noticeable and I wonder why.

Getting there. Obviously I had a headstart running it on Slackware. And FreeBSD has the best Wayland wm repos, bar none. Also: gnarly things in FreeBSD: bluetooth, how to get that Linux application running, Linuxalators et al, sound and keymappings. But the Handbook is superb, just work my way through it over the days.

On the FreeBSD front: volumekeys working. Sound output fixed. Ubuntu subsystem installed (installing the rpm of Filen didn't work, so I'm gonna have a go at the deb). Librewolf all good. This all took just around 35 minutes.
Then I spend around 2 hours jerking around with the waybar and alacritty configs, theming Gruvbox. Time well spent 😂 😆
