I got most ARM64 machines working in QEMU. One exception:

It is telling that my second blog post today is a rewrite of my FreeBSD 15 install how-to. Once I go to the paid tier I'll start reshuffling and tagging. And since it's all not that important I've called mine The Infinite Nothing.

@… some of what's written about pkgbase is unnecessarily alarmist.
In a nutshell: you can use it for RELEASE, STABLE, and CURRENT. No need to build from source for updates.

FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE-p3 on ARM64 in QEMU:
― SDDM, pictured, is barely usable.
After login to Plasma (X11), resolution is limited to 800 x 600.
How can I avoid the issue with SDDM?
Host: Kubuntu 25.10, Virtual Machine Manager with Ramfb for video. Guest: non-base packages from the latest repos.
Not reproducible with FreeBSD 16.0-CURRENT on ARM64 in QEMU on the same host.

I decided Xfce wasn't exciting enough for me. It didn't end well 😆 When you spend the last two hours setting up Niri on FreeBSD 15 only to find out in the end there's a bug open (originated on the FBSD side, since 25.11; it used to work on 14) 😭
At least I've got all deps and packages ready to go :mortyheh: Moving on, river it'll be!

@… can you recall how the corruption occurred?
Post-recovery, I see the absence of free space before the ESP; and the change in free space after partition 4.

Updated the codeberg.org/thesaigoneer/freebsd-mangowc repo. Still a lot to do, but at least the most relevant things are there, including the mango configs itself 😆 Also the sw selection has been amended, including yazi and foot now.

I think this is negligible, not worth reporting as an issue. @… do you agree?

Nothing more. The checked packages were not installed.
No error.
I guess, a coincidental lock on the package database was not reported as a lock.
