If you wonder what Mamdani is doing, he knows how to speak to narcissists (basically it’s about flattery) to get what he wants for NYC.
Narcissists like Trump do not care about logic or sides or loyalty. They’re not fully formed people.
They care only about being liked, yet they can’t tell if someone genuinely likes them or they just pretend to; it’s also not important as they wouldn’t be able to comprehend the difference.
Genuinely, one of the most satisfying movie endings ever. (And yes, I know & I'm glad they changed it)

Does removing Konate improve the defense? This is what I’m genuinely pondering.

I'm grateful to #Mastodon for still attracting interesting people. I have the chance to regularly interact with those who are genuinely interested in two-way conversations. Unfortunately, nowadays, too many people engage with others not to foster meaningful connections, but to seek validation and self-recognition. A big thank YOU.
An awful lot of Mastodon rhetoric sounds at first glance like persuasive rhetoric, but if you think about it, you realize there's no argument being presented, only affiliation. "I'm one of the good ones, believing the right things.”
... and it's real hard to tell a genuinely radical version of that from someone dealing propaganda to fragment a group. "Real members of [group] believe [extreme version of thing]" is actually a tactic to _break_ that group.
The people who succeed in the new media environment
are the people who figure out how to work its mechanics,
which selects for skills that are only loosely correlated with genuine intellectual originality.
🔸You need to be good at social media,
🔸good at building a personal brand,
🔸good at identifying topics that will generate engagement.
These are real skills,
-- but they're not the same skills that lead to developing genuinely new ideas.

It’s like we’re living in an episode of Quantum Leap and the show has opened with Scott Bakula’s character finding himself trying to play central defense as Konate.
I genuinely can’t understand what has happened to him. He’s so far off where he once was.
