Firing operations began this afternoon.
This methodical strategy is aimed at removing dense vegetation ahead of the main fire to deprive it of fuel and help keep it contained within the Garcia Wilderness.

Containment: 7%
Last night, firefighters held containment lines along SR166 on the west side, but where the line continued north, the fire crossed Alamo Creek. Dozers previously constructed lines north of SR166 and encountered rocky areas.

Today is expected to be another active day,
particularly as the fire aligns with topographical features
along grass and brush-covered hillsides.

Still getting images from the camera on Plowshare Peak, the main repeater link between the Cuyama Valley communities and the rest of Santa Barbara county-it's an important hilltop. The #GiffordFire seems to have burned right up to the site on all sides.
