#GitHub is sinking
#Microsoft
*sigh*
#GitHub
Last month, I became aware of #GitHub #agentic #workflows. I succeeded in creating one, to extract structured data out of release notes, something that was done before manually.
Here are my
#GitHub disabled 73 #Microsoft repositories across four of its GitHub organizations — the entire #Azure Functions org, the whole
Another thing I love about #GitHub is how applying review comments adds random CRs to a LF-only file. Thank you, #Microsoft, that definitely makes sense.

(Yes, of course they don't show on UI.)
One of my pet peeves with #GitHub (but maybe it's just me):
I'd never write "knurd wants to go to the cinema from home" as "go from home to the cinema" is way easier to understand.
But for some reasons github uses the odd order when it comes to PRs:
"knurd wants to merge 1 commit into kernelci:main from knurd:gitlab-workitems" (as shown i…
looks like #GitHub is being GitHub again
(Ooops!!! 500)
#GitHub does not have to be your only forge

You know what the worst part about this "#GitHub shits the bed because of all the LLM generated code that GitHub pushed in the first place" is?
Those people who in 2018 were like "Wow MS is buying GitHub? Well they're dead now" are going to be able to say "I told you so".
The worst.
"From April 24 onward, interaction data—specifically inputs, outputs, code snippets, and associated context—from Copilot Free, Pro, and Pro users will be used to train and improve our AI models unless they opt out." #github
Hadn't noticed this before in #github's UI. I wonder if this is automatic or something the repo owner have to enable:
“Prices will increase until morale improves”
#github
🔄 Auto-updates on macOS, options on Linux & Windows. Security patches released ASAP. All builds on #GitHub — self-host everything. 100% transparent.

Everyone loves jeering at vibecoded #GitHub being down all the time. Yet for some reason people still neglect to question making #Microsoft the primary guarantor of their software's supply chain #security. And the whole attestation nonsense that doesn't really protect against the most likely attack vectors.
I would really like to move away from #GitHub with my projects towards #Codeberg.
I still would like to use #RenovateBot by Mend, but they don't offer it with Codeberg. Any good way to keep it running …
I've been seeing everyone complaining about #GitHub lately. Well, I totally agree. I've had to start working with it again recently. Not only are there frequent outages, but the UI is slow and buggy as hell. Buggy like in "Supporting the back button? What for?"...

GitHub experiencing issues once again... Sigh. What to do when you can't deploy at work? Do something productive instead, read the latest and greatest news, learn a new programming language etc. Not much they can say about that!

Third time in last two weeks where I spent 30mins in a CR that looked submitted and was showing locally, but disappeared after a while.
#GitHub really is a liability now
#GitHub is going great.
Remember the issue where PRs wouldn't show up on repositories? Well, it turns out it wasn't fixed at all. #Microsoft just "resolved" the incident and is rejecting all reports about it now.
https://github.com/conda-forge/amplitude-analytics-feedstock/pulls is one example when you can't see the PRs.
See e.g. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48219231
After reading about today's #Github #security incident, exposing thousands of internal repositories, I'd like to remind you of:

Hey GitHub, this is getting silly to be honest:

> Users of #GitHub's command-line interface (#CLI) who value #privacy, beware. The #Microsoft-owned code-hosting platform has quietly begun collecting pseudonymous client-side #telemetry from CLI users and enabled it by default.

#GitHub be like:
> This page has been optimized for large pull requests. Some browser features (like Find on Page or Select All) may not work as expected.
And shows a super-slow page with >1000 modified files. So I click "Switch to single file mode".
> Only the first 1000 files are currently being shown.
And yes, that implies I can't even *select* the file I need to see 🤦.

Alternate code forges be like:
1. Let's offer this alternate VCS, so all the #git haters come to us.
2. Oh no, there's not much money in git haters. Let's offer git as well.
3. This alternate VCS is too much effort. Let's discontinue hosting it and tell our users to switch to our git hosting.
4. Why did all our users to move back to #GitHub?
#Bitbucket #Launchpad
#OpenCommit is a #sovereign #EU platform dedicated to providing a free alternative to #GitHub and
#Microsoft really doesn't want you to stop using #GitHub Sponsors.
So apparently I can't stop people from sponsoring me myself. And I can't disable #GitHubSponsors either, because I have people sponsoring me. The only thing I can do is to contact support and ask them to handle it.
Fortunately, there's a ready support link with pre-filled form. Except it doesn't work anymore, so you have to go through the new support request form yourself. And after you write the message yourself, it is fed to a completely useless LLM that tells you how to disable account. Except that the process doesn't work, because as the bottom hint notes, if you have any active sponsors, you need to contact support instead 🤦. Well, at least it eventually lets you send that support request.
At least #KoFi lets you remove memberships yourself. It also lets you remove the account entirely but apparently not deactivate it. For that, there's apparently a support request. Sent one, let's see how it goes.
