@gruber I purposefully have automatic downloads and updates turned off because OS 26 seems half-baked and I wanted to wait. Last weekend, after pestering me for a week even though I kept pressing “cancel update” my iPhone and iPad ignored all that and installed OS 26 overnight. I know I’m in the minority, but how do we evaluate the adoption rate with this in mind?

„Komfort“ nennt Bastian Gruber das Apple-Ökosystem – und zerlegt es als strukturelle Abhängigkeit: alles hängt an der Apple-ID. Sein Gegenentwurf: Self-Hosting. Technisch machbar, aber komplex. Mein Fazit: Ohne einfache Migrationspfade bleibt das ein Nischenthema für Nerds und man kann nur Einzelteile raus lösen

“Tahoe is the worst regression in the entire history of MacOS. There are many reasons to prefer MacOS to any of its competition, but the one that has been the most consistent since System 1 in 1984 is the superiority of its user interface. There is nothing about Tahoe’s new UI that is better than its predecessor…. Fundamental principles of computer-human interaction — principles that Apple itself forged over decades — have been completely ignored.”

I've been working on this one for a while. The multi-trillion-dollar AI industry? Their *most advanced platforms* are controlled by a plain text format that John Gruber made up for his blog, and then bounced off of a 17-year-old Aaron Swartz, before sharing it with the world for free. *That* is the internet. Here's the amazing (true!) story of how Markdown took over the world.
