Heute wird das #Grundgesetz 75! Ja, unsere Verfassung ist antifaschistisch - auch wenn es mit der praktischen Umsetzung leider oft hapert.

Good Morning #Canada
As The Canadian Open kicks off today, we wish #HappyBirthday to Jocelyne Bourassa, born on this day in 1947 in Shawinigan, Quebec. Bourassa was named LPGA Rookie of the Year in 1972, and won the La Canadienne tournament in 1973. A knee injury ended her career early but she contributed as an ambassador and a builder for the sport. She is a Member of the Order of Canada and was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

#HappyBirthday to one of Canada’s most under-rated singer songwriters, Bruce Douglas Cockburn, born May 27th, 1945, in Ottawa Ontario. Cockburn has written more than 350 songs on 34 albums over a career spanning five decades, of which 22 have received a Canadian gold or platinum certification. “Lovers in a Dangerous Time" is one of my favourite Cockburn hits (great cover by Barenaked Ladies).

#HappyBirthday to William Maxwell Aitken, 1st Baron Beaverbrook (25 May 1879 – 9 June 1964). Born in Maple Ontario, Lord Beaverbrook ("Max" to his close circle), became a millionaire selling bonds in Canada, then moved to the U.K. and served in Britain's Parliament as a minister in both world wars. He was also a British newspaper tycoon, dominating news coverage during the first half of the 20th century.

#HappyBirthday to Arthur Meighen (June 16, 1874 – August 5, 1960), a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the ninth prime minister of Canada from 1920 to 1921 and from June to September 1926. Considered to be one of Canada’s finest speakers and an intelligent politician, he nonetheless had limited success as leader of the Conservatives due to his association with unpopular policy decisions. #HappyBirthday to Joseph-Alphonse Ouimet, born June 12, 1908 , a Canadian television pioneer and president of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) from 1958 to 1967. As I was searching for content related to Ouimet, I came across this long rambling, yet delightful blog that covered his career as well as the early history of television in Canada. Lots of weird facts and tangents to be gleaned.

#HappyBirthday to John Ware (c. 1845 - September 1905) whose actual birth date is not known. Ware was Canada’s most famous cowboy who you have likely never heard of. Originally born into slavery, he was influential in the early years of the ranching industry in Southern Alberta and was among the first ranchers in Alberta, arriving in 1882 on a cattle drive from the United States.

##HappyBirthday to Donald Charles Frederick Messer (May 9, 1909 – March 26, 1973) a Canadian musician and defining icon of folk music during the 1960s. His CBC Television series Don Messer’s Jubilee (1959–69) featured Messer's down-east fiddle style, and national viewers were second only to Hockey Night in Canada. He influenced a generation of Canadian musicians, particularly on the east coast.
