CVS settles insulin fraud pricing for $36.5 million.
CVS laughs heartily while counting it's 3 BILLION in PROFIT this year alone.

A 4 pane comic with non-descript bubble figures.

In the first pane, a man stands at a desk labeled "Insurance" and asks "I need healthcare." The man behind the desk says "LMAO! You serious?"

In the second pane, there are two men behind the desk. One says "Hey! This guy wants healthcare!" The second says "Ahahaha!"

In the third pane, the original man wakes up in bed screaming "NOOO!!!" A woman next to him says "What's wrong, Sven?"

In the fourth pane, Sven replies "I think I had an Ameri…

Private member's bills rarely if ever turn into law, but I am proud that my MP is bringing this forward. We need to take the stigma out of Mental Health and drug addictions treatment and this is one way to help.
"The bill, The Mental Health Parity Act, proposes that mental health, addictions, and substance use services into Canada’s universal, public health care system. It would introduce framework for the federal government to partner with provinces and territories to provide public coverage, and is modelled after the Canada Health Act. It will also include provisions to promote public accountability to reduce regional disparities in coverage.”

So my CPAP started displaying a message on start up that it's motor has exceeded it's rated hours; fortunately it still works for now.
Called to get a replacement. Insurance said I needed a prior auth from my doc.
Doc says they don't issue prior auths (which I should have flagged when talking to insurance). Now insurance says to get my CPAP pressure/info from the local durable goods provider who somehow is in network with every damned insurance I've been on in 30 years (in US healthcare...go figure).
They can't give me that info; they need a script from the doc for pressure and other data.
Finally insurance upends all of it and says I need a new sleep study before I can get a replacement CPAP. Not a 'new' one, just the one I've been prescribed and provided, replaced b/c it's End Of Life.
That will take THREE visits and I won't have a new CPAP until SEPTEMBER.
MF I could have a god damned stroke if this machine cuts out.
sigh

Is Mark Carney going to do nothing to protect Canadian Healthcare? Or will he keep doing the bidding of Danielle Smith while she Americanizes Alberta?

We were at the hospital again yesterday for @Tree. Another rough day. We made it home after a few hours in the ER and she is OK now, sleeping off the experience.
The hospital and ER were full so while we were there we had a range of people flow through the beds beside us. An older gentleman with heart problems, a drunk man with heart problems, and a young woman, quietly crying for hours, coming down after an opioid overdose, confused and scared and hopeless. Occasionally sharp and upset, but mostly just quietly crying, talking.
It is so sad the human suffering we have allowed our society to tolerate.
I am so grateful we have good people; doctors, nurses, care aids, clerks, attendants, paramedics, even kind security guards and police, taking care of people. And I am glad all this is done without concern for financial ability to pay.
I wish our system was better in so many ways, not least in the ways it could help Tree. But in other ways, it is very good, and doesn’t get credit for just how good it is. Most of that is down to the people within it.
Most people, especially detached from money or power, are good. This is reinforced for me everytime I go to the hospital and see the random strangers that are there for every conceivable reason.
They just want to be happy, be secure, be with family, be occupied, be healthy.
That’s what I see at the hospital. People wanting to be happier, and people trying to make that happen for them.
I hope one day that young lady finds the people she needs to help her stop crying.
